We had a few days of rain around here so we made some slime to occupy our time inside. Just two ingredients and you will be able to really impress your kids!
To make simply mix equal parts of liquid starch and glue together.
We placed 1/4 cup liquid starch into a sandwich bag and added about 3 drops of green food coloring.
Next add in 1/4 cup glue
Mix well. It will start to form a solid blob. There might be a bit of liquid that will not mix in, just remove the blob of slime and discard the bag with the extra liquid.
Take it out of the bag and have fun!
Looking for more ways to impress your kids? Try making oobleck!
Need a way to use up the rest of the starch? Try making some marbleized paper.
You will find other rainy day activities here.

I have four boys ages 3, 5, 9 & 11… I can’t believe I haven’t made this yet! I’m off to the store to buy the starch. Thanks for the idea!
if “There was a bit of liquid that would not mix in.” what did you do with it?
You read my mind, I have been looking for a reliable gak recipe all week and wasn’t sure the ones I found would work. Thanks! And this is the first time I have posted on your blog so I also want to tell you I really appreciate all the other ideas you share.
I have a recipe on my site for clean slime, it’s VERY similar but uses cornstarch just like oobleck. I love giving this stuff as gifts….I think it makes other moms mad, the ones that don’t like there kids playing with cool stuff. You know what i”m talking about!
Thanks for sharing – my kiddos will love this!!!
Just throw any extra liquid away.
this looks so fun! you always have great ideas on your blog
Ewww!! My son isn’t old enough for this yet, but I might make some for myself.

We LOVE this stuff! My hubby will spend hours squishing this stuff while he watches TV. The first time we made it, my 2 yr old played with it all afternoon and it was the longest she had ever played with anything other than her dolls!
I couldn’t find any liquid starch today except in a spray bottle (one store had non-aerosol). Does that work? If not, where do you usually find it?
I bought the liquid starch at Wal-Mart and I have also found it at Dillons (King Sooper). It is with the laundry supplies.
I have been searching for this recipe for years! I made it 15 years ago when I was in Advance Child Development and the recipe got lost after school was out. I kept looking for it and never found it. Thanks so much for posting!
Awesome! I remember Gak-I loved that stuff! I’ll have to try (and link) this!
Hey! I found you guys through the SITS network. I’m not a mommy (yet) but I’m the proud aunt and cousins to children I love as my own. We’ll be making this Monday!!

We made slime today for my son’s 5th birthday. It was themed “Ben 10″, so we called it Alien slime and put a big goggle eye in it and let them put it in green plastic easter eggs to keep. I found that it had alot of left over liquid. I was afraid we had done it wrong, but it was all good once we drained the fluid away. the kids loved this activity we dyed it neon green.
I totally used to make this when I was young! SO fun. I never would have remembered how to make this. thanks! There are a ton of other fun things on your blog, can’t wait to get started!
Does it matter the kind of glue that you use? Elmer’s or Rose Art?
