It’s not too big and not too small…it’s just right for little treasures, candy, or even gift cards. I made a few extra felt pockets to top off some Christmas gifts this year. You can use all your pockets at once or hang 5 or 10 and keep the rest in a bowl nearby.

  • Start by cutting your felt into strips – 3 1/2” x 8 1/2”
  • Round the corners on one end {shown in the photo above}
  • Fold the bottom up so the pocket measures about 3 1/2” x 5”
  • Sew around the outside as close to the edge as possible
  • Cut two circles and glue them together to create a number tag {1 1/2” total}
  • Use a hole punch to create two holes on the front of the pocket and one on the flap for your ribbon
  • Run your ribbon through the holes from the inside and tie your tag on

I thought about adding some big polka dots or silhouettes of Santa on them…get creative and have fun creating a family tradition.

  2. I was just thinking the same thing as Erin S. Cutting the strips to 8.5″ wouldn’t give you a 5″ pocket. If you are using the cheaper version of felt, you could buy the 9″ by 12″ squares a just leave it 12″. Super cute idea! Thanks!!

  3. I’m super excited to make these! However, asking cutting my first piece of felt to try out, there is no way I can get it to work if the strip is 3.5″ x 8.5″ (mine was actually 9″ long). I took the picture above and enlarged it so it was “true to actual size” so that I could match it up exactly with my felt and made marks on where the folds were, and it seems like the strips should be cut to 3.5″ x 11.5″ to make a 3.5″ x 5″ pocket. Is anyone else noticing this? That size more accurately reflects the dimensions in all of your photos. ???

  4. Supercool project! I’d like to do it with your red Bamboo felt and either paint the mini clothespins like candy canes or attach peppermint candies to them. Then maybe reuse the calendar for Valentine’s Day and do a set of clothespins with little candy hearts. I love this project…many thanks for sharing it! 🙂

  5. What an awesome advent calender! I am thinking of doing mine in shades of blue, to actually use on my white Christmas Tree.
