Instant Pot Cooking Times

These times are just a guideline. As with everything you might need to adjust for your specific pressure cooker.  For instance, when I am in a rush I add two minutes to the boiled egg cooking time (7 minutes), skip the 5 minute natural release and do a quick release and then quick water bath.  For sure, the five minute cook time, five minute natural release and five minute ice bath will produce the best eggs with shells that slide off but this works great too and saves a bit of time.  Changing these cooking times to meet your needs is okay!

Now you don’t have to ask how long do you pressure cook.

What can an instant pot do?

A lot!  The Instant Pot is a programmable pressure cooker. It is a multi-cooker that is a pressure cooker slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker and warmer, sauté/browning pan all in one. While it can do all of this I use the pressure cooker function.  It radically cuts the cooking times of my favorite recipes.

I have been using the Instant Pot now regularly for four years.  I hope you will try some of our family’s favorite instant pot recipes. Please share in the comments some of your favorite pressure cooker recipes for us to try. Believe me, the electric pressure cooker can make a huge difference for busy families.

Pressure Cooking Tip:

One tip I have learned is to let meat natural pressure release. I find this makes the meat most tender. I will let a roast or large piece of meat almost totally natural release while chicken breasts are good with 10 minutes.

Choosing a Pressure Cooker

If you don’t have a pressure cooker yet this is the one I purchased on Amazon. (affiliate link). I chose the Instant Pot over the Cuisinart brand because it has a stainless steel pot. It truly is the most used out of all my kitchen appliances.
