How to draw a fox step-by-step
Follow these simple steps, and you’ll soon be able to draw a fox.
Step 1
To begin, we’ll draw lines to help us draw the fox’s facial features. In this first step, draw a large circle in the top-right of the page to make the basic shape of the head on a sheet of paper. Use a compass so the circle is perfect. After that, draw a short line down the center of the circle.
Step 2
The second step is to give your fox eyes and a nose. Firstly, draw a small upside-down triangular shape on the center line, near the bottom of the circle. A bit further up, draw two small circles, on both sides of the center guide line as shown in the image below. Add a small circle inside each eye to make them look real.
Step 3
Next, we want to make the fox’s head look more lifelike. Draw two semi-circles above each eye that connect to the nose of your fox and go to the side of the face to form a long snout. After that, draw a larger curve that goes just below the top of the circle to make the fox’s head. Use the reference image below to help.
Step 4
We want our fox to hear, so let’s give it some ears! On both sides of the top of the head, draw a large curvy triangle with a smaller one inside to form the fox’s ears. Next, we’ll add extra fur on both sides of the face of your fox drawing, just like in the picture below. Now we’ve got the face of the fox.
Step 5
Now we’re going to draw the overall shape of the main body with some long lines. Start on the bottom-left of the face, and draw a curved line downwards that goes to the left, then curves back around to connect to the right side of the face. After that, add the hind leg and front legs, just like in the picture below. You’ll get a small body in the sitting position.
Step 6
A distinctive feature of a fox is its bushy tail! Used curved lines to draw a tail on the left side of the fox. Add a section at the end of the tail with a zig-zag line to help show its fluffy tail. Also, add some zig-zag lines to the body to show the fur pattern.
Step 7
The final step is to remove the guide lines from your fox sketch with an eraser. You should now have the final lines of your fox. If you like, you can trace the lines with a thick marker pen so it stands out. You’re just a step away from finishing!
Your finished fox drawing
After completing your entire drawing of a fox, the next step is to add some color. You can use acrylic paints, color pencils, crayons, or even oil pastels.
Once you’ve mastered this cute art project, challenge yourself by drawing different fox species, such as an arctic fox, fennec fox, or grey fox.
Practicing regularly is a great way to improve your animal drawing skills, and you can then move on to different animals, like polar bears.
