NOTE: I think when using worsted-weight yarn I would size up and use an H crochet hook. I didn’t but I think it might help the star remain more flat.

Magic ring. Chain two (counts as first double crochet). 9 more dc in magic circle. St in top of chain two. 2 dc in next stitch, tr, ch 2, sc in top of tr, 2 dc. Sc in next st. Repeat four more times. ending with sc in the last stitch.
Simple Crochet Star Pattern Step-By-Step Instructions
Start with a magic circle (ring). Chain 2 (counts as your first double crochet). Make 9 more DC in the magic circle. 10 stitches.
Slip stitch in top of the chain two stitch to join.
Two double crochet in the next stitch.
Treble stitch.
Chain 2.
Single crochet in the top of the treble stitch.
Two double crochet.
Single crochet in the next stitch.
Repeat four times ending with a single crochet in the last stitch.
