Supplies for Shark Drawing
You only need a few basic supplies to draw a shark:
- Sketch Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Black marker or crayon for outlining
- Gray marker, crayon, or colored pencil for coloring
Start with a pencil so you can erase if you need to. Once your shark drawing is finished, trace it with a black marker or crayon and color the top of the shark light gray.
Shark Drawing Practice Sheet
Use this printable shark drawing practice sheet to follow each step and then finish your own shark drawing. The light gray starter line in the โYour Turnโ box gives kids a simple place to begin, while leaving plenty of room to complete the shark.
This is a helpful way to practice the drawing more than once, especially for classrooms, art centers, homeschool lessons, or a quiet ocean-themed activity.

How to Draw a Shark
Follow these easy shark drawing steps. Take your time and draw lightly with pencil first.
Step 1: Draw the Back, Fin, and Tail
Start with a long curved line for the sharkโs back. Add the tall dorsal fin on top, then draw the pointed tail fin at the end.

Step 2: Add the Head, Mouth, and Fins
Draw the sharkโs head and lower body line. Add the mouth, eye, teeth, gill marks, and the large pectoral fin underneath.

Step 3: Add More Fins
Add the smaller fins near the back of the shark. These extra fins help the shark look more complete and realistic.
Step 4: Finish the Shark by Coloring
Trace your shark with a black marker or crayon, then color the top of the shark light gray. Leave the belly white, just like a great white shark.

Great job finishing your shark drawing! You can also add ocean waves, bubbles, or small fish around your shark to make a complete underwater picture.
