5 Can Easy Taco Soup Ingredients

Here are the 5 cans it takes to put together easy taco soup. Keep them in your pantry and you are always ready to make Taco Soup in minutes!

  • Corn with juice (1 can)
  • Hominy with juice (1 can)
  • Diced tomatoes with juice (1 can)
  • Diced tomatoes and green chilies with juice (1 can)
  • Ranch Style beans, undrained (1 can)

In addition, this taco soup takes

  • 1 pkg Ranch Dressing mix
  • 1 pkg taco seasoning mix (or make your own taco seasoning spice mix)
  • and 1 pound ground beef, browned and drained
  • salt and pepper to taste

People have asked if other beans like kidney beans, pinto beans, or black beans may be substituted. And the answer is, yes, of course! However, the ranch-style beans have a sauce that I think gives this taco soup extra flavor.

How do you make Taco Soup?

This Taco Soup recipe is made easily in one pot! It is hearty, tasty, and full of flavor. It is a good for you soup packed with protein and fiber.

To make taco soup: first, brown the ground beef (or lean ground turkey if you are decreasing saturated fat) in a large pot or dutch oven. Be sure to drain excess fat from the meat after cooking. Now add in all the remaining ingredients (no need to drain and rinse anything) and stir to combine everything and heat on medium heat until the soup is hot through.

PRO TIP: Taco soup can be eaten just heated from the stove, left to simmer in a crock pot for hours, or my personal favorite – for 10 minutes in a pressure cooker. I call it my pressure cooker taco soup!

Any way you cook it, it is a winner!  Add a dollop of sour cream and some grated cheddar cheese for a super EASY and yummy soup! My kids love to crunch up tortilla chips or corn chips and stir them into the taco soup.

If you happen to have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This soup also freezes beautifully in a freezer-safe container. In fact, my chicken taco soup is a dump meal for the freezer. So easy to throw in a freezer zip lock bag.

If you like a little extra heat, try the taco soup with Rotel spicy instead of mild, and slice in some jalapenos or green chiles on the top. Another option is to add canned green chilies. Take caution though, chiles may add a spiciness that might cause you to have heartburn!

To make this taco soup recipe in a low-fat version, substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for the beef.
