As a girl growing up I remember my grandma filling mason jars filled with flowers. I always thought about how beautiful a simple jar could look when filled with flowers. It was from those memories that I realized how a simple jar could make the perfect gift for May Day.

This mason jar basket comes together so quickly you’ll want to leave them on all your neighbors’ doors. Let your kids get in on the action by letting them make the deliveries ring the bell and run!

Mason Jar Printable May Day Tags

How cute is this little play on the typical Happy May Day! I am switching it up and saying, “May your Day be happy!”

I have mason jar holiday tags in black and pink. You choose! Both look great printed on a variety of colored and white cardstock. The chevron embossed Kraft paper shown here I found in my craft room.  It was a craft store find from a while back. I also used embossed kraft-colored paper for these funny wine tags.

Here is the file for the free printable tag. All you need to do is download and print them.

Cut out the tags. Fasten them with ribbon or clips. I am a huge fan of these mini clothespins.

How to make a May Day Basket with a Mason Jar

To make this mason jar May Basket, begin by cutting a 36″ piece of 16 gauge wire. Then wrap one end of the wire around the jar and twist it to tighten it to the jar,

Next, make hoop up and around to the opposite side of the jar directly across from the original wire tie.  Do the same thing as before, wrapping the last end of the wire around the neck of the jar and twist it on itself to tighten the wire to the jar

Twist the ends so there are no sharp edges. Now it is looking like a Mason jar basket.

Pick a few flowers and place them in the Mason Jar May Day Basket filled with water. You are now ready to go “ding and dash” and make someone’s day. Who wouldn’t enjoy such a beautiful surprise?

Flower Tip: Not only is this an incredible May Day Basket, but it can also double as an anytime gift. They also make great wedding or party decorations that can be gifted as a party favor. If the intent is to make something that can last a long time you can also fill them with paper flowers. The options for what you can do with a mason jar basket are endless!

Go forth and deliver flowers!

No mason jars? No worries! Try this printable May Day paper basket. You can also go old school and make a paper cone basket (this one you don’t even need flowers).  You might have a basket already and you can use the above hang tags or try these printable May Day tags. Often when we can’t find flowers anywhere we will buy bedding flowers and make the container they come in the May basket.
