This Dawn and vinegar homemade bath and shower cleaner is fantastic. The recipe has been floating around the web and so I had to give it a try for myself!

Couldn’t be more thrilled to have found an inexpensive powerful homemade bathroom cleaner. Once again vinegar proves to be a great household cleaner and you can even mix vinegar with baking soda for a great way to unclog a drain.

DIY Tub and Shower Cleaner

Homemade Bath and Shower Cleaner Recipe

You probably have the ingredients already at your house.

  1. Dawn Dishwashing Liquid
  2. White Vinegar
  3. Spray bottle with tight fitting lid
  4. Measuring Cups

Homemade Shower Cleaner Instructions

No need to use bleach, just equal parts Dawn Dish Soap and vinegar does the trick!

  1. Measure out equal parts of Original Blue Dawn dishwashing detergent and white vinegar.
  2. Heat vinegar a couple of minutes in microwave or on cook top until vinegar is hot.
  3. Carefully pour vinegar into a spray bottle.
  4. Add in Dawn dishwashing detergent and shake to mix.

Ways to Use this Homemade Cleaner

This Dawn & vinegar cleaner will cut through soap scum, clean sinks, glass shower doors and also the toilet bowl. Just spritz it on, scrub and rinse. For tough soap scum build-up, spray the mixture on and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. Scrub and rinse.

Do be careful, it does make a lot of bubbles, so the tub might be slippery. If there are too many bubbles adjust the ratio by mixing two parts vinegar to one part Dawn. Salt will also dissolve the bubbles.

There’s More

Don’t stop with a clean shower, grab your kitchen sponge and wipe down any grease or grime you see on your cook top, counters and appliances!.

You will be amazed by this bottle of blue magic!

  2. Hi Andrea! When you say 30%, do you mean what’s on the vinegar label? For example my jug says 5% acetic acid by volume. Or do you mean 30% vinegar, 70% water or 50% vinegar, 50% water. Sorry, just want to be clear. I like your idea of no soap! : )

  3. Hi! I love all your ideas and recipes. Thanks for taking the time to create all these ideas for us. I have a question about the shower cleaner with The Dawn soap. I too like using as much all natural as possible. Is the Dawn essential or could I use a different dish detergent like Thieves or Sunlight?
    Thank you!

  4. Vinegar will always be a great household cleaner. Thanks for sharing this informative article. Wanna try this at home.

  5. Kerry,
    a) no, I keep it and keep using it
    b) no, I don’t reheat when I re-use
    c) I think the heating is the best way to mix all the ingredients. I have gotten in a hurry and skipped this step and it still worked.

  6. Joyce, I am not sure. My guess is that it helps it all mix together better…. however, I have gotten in a hurry and skipped this step and it still worked.

  7. If there is leftover mixture
    a) Do you have to throw it out if you don’t use it all?
    b) if you can use it again later, do you have to head it up again?
    c) If you don’t have to heat it up again, then why head it up in the first place?

Thanks for this! I am going to try it!

  8. I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS CLEANER! One slight suggestion: try “Heinz CLEANING Vinegar”: AWESOME stuff! Incredibly STRONG vinegar! Thanks for the information on the Spray bottles on Amazon! My husband calls me “Mrs Amazon Google”! ♥️ this 💦 Cleaner!
