What is the best yarn to use for a crochet dishcloth?
The best yarn for dishcloths is cotton. For my dishcloths, I used Sugar ‘N’ Cream. Blended cottons will work too. Cotton and soy blends are softer than 100% cotton. You just need to ensure that the yarn blend is mostly cotton. This will make it absorbent.
What crochet hook do I need to make a dishcloth?
For this crochet dishcloth, I used a crochet hook size G. Depending on how you crochet (loose or tight) and the pattern you choose you can use US size H, I or J.

Yes, try to loosen your tension and stitch more loosely. If this doesn’t work you can use a larger crochet hook.
I’m really enjoying how this pattern is turning out but I feel like I might have done something wrong. The pattern starts with 40 ch but with subsequent rows when you add a dc to each 2 ch space it adds a stitch to the total row count. So for the finishing row I’ve got 50 stitches, making the cloth wider on the end. I hope this makes sense and that you might be able to give me some advice? Thanks!!
Okay Ladies, I taught myself to crochet using YouTube and wonderful videos like this over my Thanksgiving break. Anyway, I tried making these the last two days and my yarn keeps curling. Am I making them too loose or too tight? The ones I see on here are beautiful, and mine look nothing like this yet. 🙂
can someone please send me directions on how to knit this? I love it but have no clue how to crochet. Thank you 🙂
These are really beautiful! A wonderful idea, thank you for your inspiration

I forgot to say that I also use this pattern to make dish towels, by increasing the beginning chain to 60 then continuing the rows until it is a good dish towel length. I am making these to give as a gifts.
Thank you for this pattern. I love it and it has become my favorite washcloth pattern: quick, easy and very pretty. I really like that the edge comes out scalloped. Thanks again 🙂
Cindy, I had the same problem on my first attempt, so I went back and added a scallop border on the starting end. On my second attempt, I stitched through both top loops of the chain verses the sigle back loop as shown on the video. This gave my starting end the scalloped look.
Please help. Don”t know how to get the patterns. The links to follow please for the free patterns.
Thank you
I love this pattern. It’s super fast. Your looks much better than mine; much tighter. I need to work my next one tighter. Thanks for sharing.
really, Cindy I followed the pattern. The starter row is not as pronounced I think. WOW! I am not much help.
Yours looks great! I can’t figure out how to get the scallop on all 4 sides! My starter row is not scalloped and I notice on the pattern page that their starter row is not scalloped. What did you do to make yours so pretty with all four sides scalloped? An OCD crafter needs to know! LOL
I’m enjoying making these up now for Christmas presents!
I just made my first washcloth! (and linked it up!) I will definitely be trying this pattern. THanks for sharing!
