Equipment Needed
You’ll need the following kitchen utensils to make this delicious apple crostata:
- Rolling pin
- Baking sheet or baking tray
- 2x Medium bowl
- Food processor
- Oven
Apple Crostata Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 2.5 cups superfine sugar
- 1 teaspoon of allspice
- 1.5 pounds of apples (I prefer sliced and you don’t need to peel them either). If you prepare them early, remember to put them in water with lemon juice, so they don’t go brown
- Pastry (to make the pie crust). You need enough to make about an 11-inch circle
- 1 stick of cold, unsalted butter

How To Make an Apple Crostata
This is a really simple recipe, and you can get your apple crostata together in under an hour. Here’s how.
Step 1: Place one cup of flour, 1.5 cups of sugar, one teaspoon of cinnamon, and one teaspoon of salt in a bowl and toss through until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed.

Step 2: Place your already sliced apples into a bowl and sprinkle then fold the mixture through thoroughly.

Step 3: Place the apples on the pastry. Pile them up, but leave about a 2-inch border.

Step 4: Make the crumble for the topping by adding the remaining flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, allspice, and butter to the bowl of a food processor. Using the pulse button, blitz the ingredients until you have a crumbly mixture. Add that to the top of the apple crostata and fold the outer pastry upwards to hold all the contents as shown in the image below.

Step 5: Now bake in the oven till the apples are cooked and your crostata is golden brown.

Additional Ideas for an Apple Crostata
You can make some changes to your apple crostata if you’d like.
For example, add a little orange zest to the crumble for a nice zing or serve it with a caramel source.
You could even make several mini apple tarts as individual servings, instead of baking a large crostata as we have above.
