Oscar Party Ideas

I would love to host an Oscar Party. It isn't going to happen this year, but if I did have an Oscar Party I would...

send these cool invitations that can be printed for free at Twig & Thistle.

A table decorated with photo cylinders like Hostess with the Mostess would be lovely.

I would print these ballots and popcorn bags also from Twig & Thistle---- isn't she amazing!

It would be fun to play How About Orange's Oscar Bingo during the awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has an Oscar Night Essentials Party Kit including recipes, party ideas, printable ballots, bingo cards and cross word puzzles.

I am always looking for appetizer inspiration! Delish and Woman's Day serve up some yummy ideas. Food TV shares some best supporting snacks. Food and Wine Magazine doesn't disappoint with their 10 Oscar Appetizers. Food and Wine Magazine also has a Make Ahead Cocktail  Party!

Movie themed food would be a must! Epicurious and Allrecipes have themed dinners for each of the nominated movies.

Gourmet and that's the spirit share the perfect cocktails to pay tribute to the nominated movies and actors.

We could also dine on tuxedo strawberries.

These Oscar Award Cookies from Bakerella would make a spectacular statement.

How about these Oscar statutes that were made from white chocolate and then painted with edible gold made by My Little Cottage in the Making. Served with a slice of cheesecake and a chocolate "Hollywood." Simply pipe melted chocolate onto parchment paper, allow to cool. Once hard, peel away from parchment paper and embellish the dessert.

My Little Cottage in the Making sent her guests home with some swag --bag full of candy, a bag of popcorn, a movie gift certificate, a Hollywood clap sign key chain and a pin in the shape of the pink stars on Hollywood Walk of Fame. I would want to do this also!

I would also borrow some of Cathy Filian's  great ideas for Oscar party decor, food and fun!

Felt Crayon Holder

These felt crayon holders were the party favors at my daughter's birthday party.

How To Make A Felt Crayon and Notepad Holder

Supplies

(I used the inexpensive craft felt found in 9"X12" sheets at craft stores, often the size slightly varies. I found it okay to make minor adjustments by slightly stretching while sewing and cutting)

2 pieces 6" X 12" (lining, outside)

1 piece 3" X 12" (pocket)

1 - flower shape

1 - circle for center of flower

1 button with shank

1 - 12" piece of ribbon

1 - 11" piece of ribbon

8 -  Crayons

1 - 3" X 5" 80 Sheet Memo Pad

CrayonHolder2

Instructions

Sew ribbon to top of pocket piece. This ribbon will keep the felt from stretching when child places crayons and notepad in and out of the pockets.

CrayonHolder3

Place pocket piece on top of lining piece and mark fabric. I use a chalk marker filled with loose chalk. In the tip is a tiny metal wheel that neatly distributes the chalk. I have had it for years --- it is a great tool!

Starting in the middle of the felt pocket, mark  1 5/8" from the center then every 1" to the side. The last space will be about 1 1/2" (give or take, felt can stretch while sewing). Repeat on other side.  Really it only needs to be marked at the top. If making a bunch, use one as a template to mark the rest.

CrayonHolder4

Stitch from the center to the side, making sure to reinforce at top by back stitching at the top of each pocket seam. I found that the lining piece was often a bit longer at this point. trim side edges so they are even (I have not yet trimmed in the picture).

CrayonHolder5

Sew flower to top of outside felt piece. Insert 11" ribbon 1/2" into edge of flower before sewing around the petals. Sew flower center.

CrayonHolder6

Place  the outside and lining pieces wrong sides together, matching edges and trimming if needed. Using between a 1/4" - 3/8" seam (my seam was a tad wider than 1/4"), stitch all the way around the outside edge.

CrayonHolder7

Finish edges with pinking fabric shears.
.

CrayonHolder8

Sew button with a shank to the center of the flower. Place all items in the pockets, fold up and decide how long ribbon needs to be. Fold the end of ribbon (making about a 1" loop) and stitch back and forth to secure. Trim any extra ribbon.

CrayonHolder9Finished!

Bella’s Breakfast With Santa Birthday Party

Santa came to our home along with 9 little girls in their jammies. They each sat on his lap for a picture. Isn't he just the best Santa?

Breakfast with Santa 2009 1

My husband painted wooden frames with chalkboard paint and drilled holes to make holders for two pieces of chalk.

This chalkboard frame gave them an activity to keep busy while all the girls were arriving and also served as a holder for their picture with Santa. We took the pictures at the beginning and then during the party my son and husband printed them and placed them in the decorated frames for each girl to take home.

Each little girl had a special place.

Candy Corn Cone Favors

.....still thinking about candy corn.  These candy corn cones would make a festive favor --- especially cute sitting in the center of a dinner plate.

Download and print on white card stock. Cut out and place double stick tape on the front side edge. Notice that tape starts all the way on the yellow part and tapers off the paper at the white tip.

CandyCornConeFavor1

Roll up into a cone. Okay, it takes a minute to get the hang of it and you have to be forceful to get it to come together.  You will need to trim the tape off at the point. Once you have it rolled into a cone and secured, place tape along the inside edge. Glue could be used or hot glue  if you work quickly

CandyCornConeFavor2

Take a strip of tissue paper  about 7" wide and 20" long and attach it to the tape. "Ruffle" tissue paper as you attach it to the tape.  Overlap ends and secure with just a bit more tape.

Fill with treats and tie off with a bow!

Make your own cupcake wrappers

This is so easy to do, but  if you don't want to spend the time making a template I have one for you.

Cupcake Wrapper Template Download

Cupcakewrapper1

All you need is some scrapbooking paper! I did use scalloped scissors to cut across the top to give them a fancy edge. You might need to make slight adjustments for height and length depending on the size of your cupcakes. Fasten the wrappers together with glue stick or hot glue.

cupcakewrapper2

Come back tomorrow to for a free digital cupcake wrapper template with some different paper options to drop into the template and print! There will also be a tutorial on how to use the digital template.
