The best thing about this recipe is that you can find the ingredients in your local grocery store; there’s no need for any fancy ingredients! With things like a boxed cake mix and some Jell-O, you can make a patriotic cake with vibrant colors that is the perfect dessert for the holiday. Here is what you will need:

  • 1 box of white cake mix (+ water, oil, and egg whites called for on the cake mix box to prepare)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 – 3 ounce box Strawberry flavored Jell-O
  • 1 – 3 ounce box blueberry flavored Jell-O
  • 1 – 8 ounce Container Cool Whip Thawed
  • 2 cups fresh sliced strawberries

  • (Optional) blue sprinkles or red, white and blue patriotic sprinkles

How to Make a Red White and Blue Jello Poke Cake

For these festive holidays, I thought of making an ice cream cake, but it turned out to be more complicated than expected… That’s why I’m so happy to have found this delicious cake! Although it is an easy dessert, make sure you have plenty of time to make the perfect cake. I also recommend printing my recipe card so you can make this cool cake any day. Grab your electric mixer and cake flour, and let’s make a beautiful cake with patriotic colors.

  1. Prepare the box cake mix according to the package and bake according to the package directions for a 9×13 pan. Once the cake batter has been baked, let the cake cool completely on a wire rack.baked white cake
  2. In a small bowl, combine 1 cup boiling water and strawberry Jell-O and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Prepare the blueberry Jell-O the same.
  3. Poke the cake with the handle of a wooden spoon halfway into the cake at 1-inch intervals.poke cake with wooden spoon
  4. Pour Jell-O into two tall glasses. Place a straw into the glass, and cover the top of the straw with a finger to keep the liquid inside the straw. Fill the hole by releasing your finger from the straw to allow the liquid strawberry Jell-O to release into the hole. Place the strawberry jello-O in every other hole in the cake. Do the same with the blueberry gelatin in the remaining holes. A cooking baster or syringe also works for filling the holes.filling poke cake with jello
  5. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours.

  7. Using fresh strawberries and blueberries, arrange them in a pattern resembling the American flag on top of the frosted cake. Start by creating a blueberry field in the upper left corner, followed by alternating rows of strawberries and whipped topping to form the red and white stripes.
