Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix +oil, and egg whites called for on the cake mix box to prepare
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 3 ounce box Strawberry flavored Jell-O
  • 3 ounce box blueberry flavored Jell-O
  • 8 ounce Container Cool Whip Thawed
  • 2 cups fresh sliced strawberries
  • Fresh blueberries

Instructions

  • Prepare the box cake mix according to the package and bake according to the instructions for a 9×13 pan.
  • Let the baked cake cool completely.
  • In a small bowl, combine 1 cup boiling water and strawberry Jell-O and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Prepare the blueberry jello-O the same.
  • Poke the cake with the handle of a wooden spoon halfway into the cake at 1-inch intervals.
  • Pour jell-O into two tall glasses. Place the straw into the glass, and cover the top of the straw with a finger to keep the liquid inside the straw. Fill the hole by releasing your finger from the straw to allow the liquid strawberry JELLO to release into the hole. Place the strawberry jello-O in every other hole in the cake. Do the same with the blueberry gelatin in the remaining holes. A cooking baster or syringe also works for filling the holes.
  • Cover and chill for at least 4 hours.
  • Spread the container of thawed cool whip over the top of the cake.
  • Decorate the cake with sliced strawberries and blueberries to look like a flag.
