Pom Pom Spider Step-by-Step

Here’s how to craft a pom pom spider in a few easy steps.

Step 1: Take the inner cardboard tube from a toilet roll and using scissors, cut two small slits at either end.

Flip it over and cut another short slit.

Note the slits shouldn’t be too long.

Step 2: Take a length of black wool and place it lengthways along the cardboard tube while pulling down the ends through the slits that you cut to help secure it.

Pull the ends of the wool down through the two slits to secure it so the wool runs lengthways along the cardboard roll.

Step 3: Now turn the cardboard roll 90 degrees and start wrapping your ball of wool around it as shown in the images below.

And wrap some more until you have a large amount of wool to form the pom pom.

Step 4: Now tie the two loose ends from earlier around the wrapped wool and secure it.

Step 5: Cut the ends of the ball of wool on either side. Be careful not to cut the wool securing it.

Step 6: Trim the edges to form a pom pom.

Step 7: Now apply some googly eyes before we start to add the spider’s legs. You will need craft pipe cleaners for that.

Step 8: Bend the craft pipe cleaner as shown in the image and push it into the pom pom to secure it. Make the seven other legs and do the same.

Step 9: Take a paper plate and draw on a spider web with a pencil. Use a black marker to trace over the pencil lines you have drawn.

Step 10: Punch a hole through the middle of the paper plate and feed the string from the pom pom through.

Step 12: Make a loop in the string and attach it to your finger. The pom pom spider is ready to play with!
