We also draw a crowd, as our neighbors have a great time watching the kids blowing bubbles.

For the homemade bubble Solution

If you use the ingredients listed here, your bubble solution should make strong bubbles. This means your bubbles should not pop immediately. Keep reading for more details.

Giant Bubbles How To guide

DIY Bubble Wand

First, make your own DIY giant bubble wand with some string (cord) and straws. It works best to have straws without the bendable section at the end of the straw.

  1. Cut about two yards of string. We had great luck with thick baker’s twine or cotton string.
  2. Make the wand by threading the two straws onto the string and fasten the ends of the string with a knot.
  3. Move the knot around until it is hidden inside one of the straws.

When done, the straws become your handles. Hold on to them when dipping your wand in bubble solution and when moving it through the air. It really is as easy as that!

I think I hear a breeze outside! It is time to mix up a batch of your own awesome homemade giant bubble solution!

Homemade Bubble Recipe

  • 3 Cups water, tap water will work
  • 1/2 Cup Dawn Dishwashing Liquid (or other dish soap)
  • 1/4 Cup corn starch
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Corn Syrup
  • Dish tub or bucket with lid

Making Magic Happen

  1. Mix the water, Dawn liquid detergent, corn starch, baking powder, and corn syrup.
  2. From experience, allow the bubble solution to set for at least 30 minutes and gently stir it when you see the corn starch fall out. After that, you want to keep the solution mixed when in use.
  3. Pour the bubble mixture into a container that is large enough for the straws to fit inside. We used a dish tub. The dish tub was also perfect for mixing the solution in.

You’ll find that this solution works great for making giant bubbles.

How to Make Bubbles – Giant Bubbles

Dip the wand into the solution, then gently bring it out one side at a time. It may take quite a few tries until the mixture starts making bubbles. Be patient, it will be worth it.

We found it took some time to get the bubble solution to work. The motion of our hands in the solution seemed to make it better and better. Once it started working it was amazing!

Something else we found was a few days later the solution didn’t work well. So we just started the process over again. Making giant bubbles is just too much fun!
