This recipe comes together with 5 simple ingredients if you count the 2 eggs as 2 ingredients! No kidding, yellow cake mix, 1 stick of butter, 2 eggs, and 1 bag of chocolate chips!
Cake Mix Cookie Bar INGREDIENTS
Here’s all You need to make this recipe
- 1 stick of butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 yellow cake mix
- 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips (2 cups)
SUBSTITUTIONS and ADDITIONS
- To elevate these bars to extra decadent, substitute white chocolate chips for semi-sweet chips.
- For a flavor burst, add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Just combine eggs and vanilla.
- If you are using unsalted butter, you could add 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt to this recipe.
Steps to make Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
- Melt butter and transfer into a mixing bowl to cool slightly.
- Whisk 2 eggs into the butter
- Stir in cake mix
- Mix in chocolate chips
- Press into greased 9 x 13 cake pan (I think they come out easier for cutting if the pan is lined with parchment paper and then sprayed.) Whatever works best for you is great.
- Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 – 25 minutes. The cookie bar will be golden brown.
Serving and Storage
It’s so hard to wait until these are completely cool to slice and serve…so, you don’t have to wait until they are cold! If you serve it while warm, the chocolate is slightly gooey making these so satisfying!
Slice enough to serve and leave the rest intact, as the unsliced portion stays fresh longer.
Store in an airtight container!

This is one of my favorite boxed cake mix cookies. I scoop and drop instead of cookie bars though. I prefer my cookies that way and my cakes as cupcakes. 🤷🏻♀️😋
The easiest after school snack! Soft and delicious.
It doesn’t get much easier! We used half M&M’s and half chocolate chips for ours. Yum!
