- chenille or velvet yarn ( I found the mint green yarn at Hobby Lobby and the yellow at the Dollar Store) Bernat velvet yarn is another choice. I am sure these would work with different yarn.
- K crochet hook
- hair elastic
- scissors
- yarn needle (to weave in the ends)

Easy Crochet Scrunchie Free Pattern – Supplies neededMaking your own scrunchies is a great beginner project. There are no special stitches in this easy pattern.
Stitch Abbreviations & Terminology
- Chainโch
- Slip stitchโsl st
- Half double crochetโhdc

- Work the pattern between * and *, then repeat the pattern

How to make a Half Double Crochet (HDC) stitch
- Yarn over, and insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over, and pull up a loop.
- Yarn over, and pull the yarn through all three loops on the hook.
How to Make a Double Crochet (DC) Stitch
- Yarn over, and insert the hook into the next stitch.
- Yarn over, and pull up a loop.
- Yarn over, and pull the yarn through two loops on the hook.
- Yarn over, and pull through the last two loops on the hook.
Free Crochet Scrunchie Pattern
Start with a sl st on your hook, work 1sl st around your hair tie and ch2. Round 1: 35hdc around the hair tie, join with sl st in the first st, ch3 (35 sts). Round 2: *(2dc), (3dc)* 16 times, (2dc) (87 sts). Fasten off and weave in the ends.
- Start with a slip stitch on your hook. Sl st around the hair tie and chain 2.

- Round 1: Make 35 hdc around the elastic hair tie. In the photo, yarn over. Next, insert hook in front of the hair tie.

- Pull up a loop, so you have three loops.

- Yarn over and pull through all three loops.


- When finished with the 35 hdc, sl st in the first st to join, ch3 (35 sts).

- Round 2: *(2dc), (3dc)* 16 times, (2dc) (87 sts). In the photo you see the chain 3 then 2dc in the next stitch, then 3 double crochet stitches (dc) in the next.

- Sl st in chain 3. Fasten off and weave in the ends. Look at all those ruffles.

Sorry J, that would have been super helpful if I had shared that. I know that the yellow chenille yarn from the Dollar Tree is a small ball that is 65 years. It didn’t take a full ball to make one of the scrunchies. I hope this helps.
