Homemade Shower Cleaner Instructions
No need to use bleach, just equal parts Dawn Dish Soap and vinegar does the trick!
- Measure out equal parts of Original Blue Dawn dishwashing detergent and white vinegar.
- Heat vinegar for a couple of minutes in the microwave or on a cooktop until the vinegar is hot.
- Carefully pour vinegar into a spray bottle.
- Add in Dawn dishwashing detergent and shake to mix.
Ways to Use This Homemade Cleaner
This Dawn & vinegar cleaner will cut through soap scum, clean sinks, glass shower doors, and also the toilet bowl. Just spritz it on, scrub, and rinse. For tough soap scum build-up, spray the mixture on and allow it to sit for about 30 minutes. Scrub and rinse.
Do be careful, it does make a lot of bubbles, so the tub might be slippery. If there are too many bubbles, adjust the ratio by mixing two parts vinegar to one part Dawn. Salt will also dissolve the bubbles.
There’s More
Don’t stop with a clean shower, grab your kitchen sponge and wipe down any grease or grime you see on your cooktop, counters, and appliances!

Lisa, it gets everything mixed well, however yes, I have made it many times without heating and it works well.
What is the purpose of heating the vinegar? Will it work as well cold? Lisa
Sarah, look for a dish soap that mentions the ability to cut grease. That is one of the benefits of Dawn.
Hi,
I live in Turkey and we dont have Dawn here unfortunately. Can I use another dish soap?
Also, will the hot vinegar melt the spray bottle?
Hello Mary, the recipe doesn’t call for baking soda. Yes, vinegar and baking soda do cause a reaction. You can pour baking soda and vinegar down a drain to unclog but this cleaner only has detergent and vinegar.
When I added baking soda to vinegar, and dish detergent, it went to spewing everywhere. I probably wonโt have any solution left when it stops
