DIY Bunting

About 10 inches of 45 inch wide fabric will give you 5 pennants (each pennant is made of two triangles).

Fold fabric in half. I use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut out the triangles.

The folded edge gives one pennant and then you get four more with the rest of the fabric. (The fabric is doubled because it was folded)

Here the folded edge is opened to show the single triangle and the you see the other triangles which are doubled making four more pennants. The piece on the right is scrap.

I cut a variety of colors.

Sew two triangles wrong sides together to make one pennant. Sometimes I trim the edges with pinking shears after I have sewn to make a fun zig zag edge.

Now the pennants just need to sewed together with double fold bias tape.

I have to interrupt this tutorial to introduce you to pure genius. Of course you can buy pre-made bias tape but you will never need to again because there is the Simplicity Bias Tape Maker!

I can’t possibly explain the thrill of simply cutting a two inch strip of an old sheet ………

feeding it through this little machine and getting yards and yards of bias tape.

I am in heaven! (I know I didn’t make authentic bias tape because I didn’t cut the fabric on the bias) but I did make yards of wonderful binding perfect for my bunting. Can you imagine all the possibilities!

Lay pennants spaced evenly on the tape,

fold top of tape over the top of the triangle, pin…

and stitch.

Pennant bunting is such a fun way to decorate for parties!

The container is a cardboard Uncle Sam hat from the party store filled with hydrangeas and patriotic pinwheels. A large coffee can painted with a patriotic design would also work.

Print template on card-stock, cut out, fold tips to center and fasten with a long pin through black dots. The pinwheels can be attached to a pencil by pushing the pin into the pencil eraser. I needed a longer stick so I placed a cap pencil eraser on a 5/16″ dowel rod that I painted blue. I found they really spin well if you add a pony bead for spacing. A star cut out would be a nice touch on the front where the pin is placed.

Liven up a white sack with this festive download. Download and print on a flat 5″ X 7 1/2″ white sack. See below if you would like to order sacks.

These little sacks would be great to slip a cookie in or maybe some s’more supplies.  I will be placing a napkin and cutlery for each person at our Fourth of July party.

If your printer doesn’t feed smaller paper easily, just run a white sheet of paper through your printer to place the design. I then taped the sack onto the printed paper with a bit of blue painters tape at the top and bottom of the sack  (lining up image with sack) and printed.

For perfect party favors give your guests a few sparkers with these fun sparkler tags.  Download image, cut and then add slits to slip the sparklers through.

Print out the template and fold into a cone. It overlaps at the top about about two inches to no overlap at the point. You could easily use tape to fasten, but I used hot glue. My local printing store was running a special so I saved the file to a flash drive and had them print directly from the file. They did look much better than if I had printed them on my printer, plus the color copy paper is heavier with a nice sheen.

I didn’t have a fork but I think I could squeeze it in. If I was being really helpful and not going for the look, it would probably be better to clip the napkin to the back. Actually I think I will just fold the napkin in thirds to slip behind the utensils on the front.  That way they can make it through the buffet line without having to adjust the clip and napkin then hold the utensils—-and it would still be cute.
