Reasons to Drink More Water

Energy!  Did you know that drinking more can actually help your energy level?  When we are dehydrated, our body feels fatigued and can also feel weak.  Drinking enough water every day will help you maintain clear thinking and better concentration.

Weight loss!  When our body is hydrated it allows our organs to work at their optimal level.  This increases metabolism and allows the body to burn more fat. Plus, water has zero calories, so if you are substituting a glass of water for your favorite drink or soda, you will be saving a bunch of extra added calories!

Healthy skin! Drinking water hydrates your skin.  This seems especially important for me in the winter when I seem to have such dry skin. Water helps diminish the appearance of wrinkles (that’s a huge bonus!) and it flushes toxins out of your body.

Nutrients!  Water allows nutrients and oxygen to travel to your cells and organs.  It is vital in keeping our body healthy at it’s most basic level–the cellular level.  Water also regulates our body temperature, removes waste, and helps protects our joints and organs.

Detox Water Benefits

  • Grapefruit:  As an oil or cut up fruit.  When added to your water it gives it a refreshing-tart taste.  It is known to have fat-burning enzymes that can help aid weight loss.  It contains Vitamins A & C.
  • Peppermint:  As an oil or add a few mint leaves.  Mint water helps aid with digestion, bloating, and upset stomachs. It gives you fresh breath and can help you feel invigorated.
  • Cucumber:  Sliced up into the water.  Cucumber water has diuretic properties that help to guarantee that most of the moisture in your body will be flushed from your system as quickly as possible.
  • Lime and Lemon:  As on oil, or sliced up.  Lemon detox water helps relieve bloating and ease indigestion.  Great way to enjoy the flavor of lemonade or limeade without all of the extra sugar.
  • Ginger:  Sliced up.  It helps calm the stomach,  has anti-inflammatory properties, can help with fat-burning, and boosts the immune system.
  • Orange.  As an oil or sliced up.  Citrus fruits contain Vitamin C to help boost the immune system.  It helps eliminate toxins and flush the body.

How long do you let detox water sit?

You might wonder how long you can leave the fruit in the water. Fruit-infused water is best after two-four hours or after it has had a chance to infuse overnight. Under refrigeration lemon slices and fresh fruits in water can keep for up to three days. The water can be replenished and lemon slices reused.  I remove the cumber and mint and add fresh when doing this.

The possibilities for detox water recipes are endless and you can mix and match to create amazing flavors with fruits and herbs.  I love to mix cucumber and peppermint or orange and ginger.  I often add berries, such as raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries, when they are in season.  They go great with cucumbers and mint too! You can never go wrong with drinking lemon water.  I love drinking the infused waters and I can’t imagine ever going back to drinking only plain water again.  I often mix up an entire pitcher of detox water and keep it cold in the fridge so I can have a refreshing glass as soon as I am thirsty on a daily basis! Some people think drinking detox water can even help them lose weight. One thing for sure it makes water taste great! Why drink plain water when you can have flavored water with healthy benefits.

Lemon Vitality Essential Oil for Detox Water

Each year, I start my water resolution off with a bang and a need for an extra roll or two of toilet paper each week!  I tend to slow down on my water intake and return to higher calorie substitutes by February 1st (I know–It’s a shameful pattern!)  The one thing I have realized over the years, is that I just crave the taste.

This year, I have found a great secret weapon.  My family has been using essential oils for almost everything under the sun.  We have been experimenting with homemade cleaners, mood-lifting room sprays, and new recipes using ingestible essential oils.  We’ve been replacing some of our more toxic products with some alternatives, using  Young Living Essential Oils.  It is a company that we trust, and you can read more about that by clicking here.  I also suggest that you don’t ingest just any essential oil.  You need to check out the safety before you put it in your water or on your skin!

I have been adding one to two drops of Lemon Vitality to my tumbler full of ice water, and I am loving it!  Lemon Vitality (from Young Living) contains limonene.  It has a fresh citrus flavor and makes a great addition to food–and especially to regular water!  I have found that I also really like the lime, peppermint, and grapefruit vitality oils in my water too.  I’m not a doctor, health practitioner, or oil guru.  I am just a mom reading research and trying recipes to determine what works for my family!

Drinking water with essential oils isn’t the only way to enjoy their health benefits. There are so many ways to use essential oils!  This peppermint sugar smells delicious and makes your skin silky soft. I have included a cute DIY printable label to make it into a sweet gift, but I would make an extra batch to keep one for yourself too! If you want to know another way we use essential oils at our house try this stinky shoe spray. I love these Essential Oils if you want to know more! You will always find them diffusing in our home.

  1. Will be making this tomorrow. I’ve read nothing but good things about lemon water and the benefits it has. I’ve also found that people tend to stop using it due to the sour taste. These ideas are amazingly simple and the ingredients that make it taste better also have additional and balanced health benefits as well. Hope I can use limes for the first batch as I have a bunch in the fridge now. Will also use this water and heat it up with honey for a toddy as well. Honey has amino acids the body absolutely loves as long as it’s in smal dosages. Too much sugar is too much sugar as we all know.

  2. I am always looking for way to drink water and adding flavour to it is such a winner. Thank you for sharing!
