We are keeping entertained with this cute little bunny puppet. If you are looking for easy Easter crafts look no further. There is just a little bit of sewing required to make this hand puppet, making it a good beginning sewing project for kids if they are just learning to sew.
If you love bunnies try this bunny origami or even learn how to draw a bunny.
You might even whip up the puppet bodies ahead of time, and then let kids decorate the faces themselves. And don’t forget to have a puppet show – these bunny rabbits can entertain a crowd. What a great way to make your Easter Dinner fun!
How to make a bunny puppet
There are a lot of cute ways to make animal hand puppets using (or reusing) just a few supplies. Glove puppets, sock puppets, or little animal finger puppets all make for great pretend play and quality time spent with kids learning the basics of sewing.
For this project, we use two colors of felt, plus some pom poms and googly eyes to give our bunnies tons of personality. These are perfect hand puppets to make in a larger batch because they really come together quickly!
Bunny Puppet Supplies
- two 8 1/2″ X 11″ pieces of felt
- two googly eyes
- one pink pom pom
- three white pom poms (one is for the tail on the back)
- fabric glue
- small scrap of pink felt for ears and tongue
- disappearing ink fabric marking pen
- printable template below
How to Make Animal Hand Puppets
First, print out the free bunny puppet template, and cut out. Next, using the marking pen, trace around the template onto one piece of the white felt.
Pin two sheets of felt together. Sew around the bunny on the line.
Now carefully cut around bunny close to the stitching line. Be careful to not cut the stitches.
Easy Bunny Hand Puppet
Now comes the funnest part! Glue on facial features with fabric glue – and don’t forget the tail on the back. That’s it! In about 10 minutes you can make a cute bunny puppet.
Facial features can also be sewn on. This is a great idea especially if you are practicing hand sewing or embroidery. A few sewn-on whiskers are adorable! You’ll want to add the hand-sewn details before stitching around the bunny.
Or how about trying other colors of felt, like black, gray, brown or tan? A whole kerfuffle of different colored bunnies would be super cute. If you experiment with this craft, I’d love to see how your bunny puppets turn out!
