Here some great Family Halloween Costumes. It’s starting to feel like fall and Halloween is right around the corner and time to start dreaming up something special! My family loves dressing together with a fun theme
Family Halloween Costumes IDEAS
Here are a few ideas worth your time, with a little planning, you can create these fun Halloween costume ideas too! It is really fun to plan together and come up with ideas.
When you need a group Halloween costume, these ideas will make you the hit of the party. Our family loves dressing up and here are some of the best family Halloween costume ideas!
Take my advice and enjoy this while the kids are little when it’s easy keeping the family all together for the holiday.
Kiss Halloween Costume
These Kiss Halloween costumes are really very easy to pull off and they’re an instantly recognizable pop culture reference. We made our own shirts by cutting out the KISS logo in sparkly vinyl, but you could buy them on Amazon. The iconic face makeup is easy for even a novice like me, and a black wig pulls everything together.
We used painted cardboard cutouts for the guitars, which your kids will love making. Be sure to take your own Kiss picture as we did here. I love my husband’s face in this photo. We even used this photo for our Christmas cards and said hugs and KISSes.
We were able to also use our Hippies costumes for our Christmas card another year wishing our friends a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year!
Flintstones Family Costumes
This was another easy costume for the family. You can buy a Fred Flintstone costume but since I like to sew handmade costumes I found it easy to put together. If you don’t sew, do not fear – you can buy them online too! These have probably been popular options for moms and dads since the cartoon first aired.
Just make sure you have a Pebbles in the family – our little Bella sure made the theme worked out the best! She was such a cute Pebbles! I can’t believe how little she is here, she is a pre-teen now! They grow up so fast.
Stick Figure Family
Looking to go a completely different direction with your costumes this year? Make a stick figure family. This is such a cute and creative family costume idea!
Bounce off the screen with this Super Mario Brothers!
Family of 4 Halloween Costumes
Cops and Robbers is a classic costume idea. It doesn’t get easier than this: all you need are black clothing, nylons, a white bag, and a cop costume (you can choose whether you allow the toy gun). I think this costume idea is adorable. You can easily put it together in a day – and we all need a little last-minute costume idea!
Circus Act: Deck the whole family out in a circus theme with your littlest one as a lion if you want to make the neighbors chuckle.
WHere the Wild Things Are Costume
You can even build your own Lego Family! This family Halloween costume idea is guaranteed to turn heads as you trick or treat together!
Wizard of Oz Halloween Costumes
If you are a fan of the Wizard of Oz (and who isn’t?), this is a very fun family costume. You can purchase almost every costume so you don’t need to know how to sew. I think the tin man is my favorite in this family but they all turned out very cute.
Be sure you don’t miss the details that can make this family costume really stand out like the crown on Glenda, the witches green face, Dorthy’s red sparkly slippers (not pictured), and tin man’s ax. It is those little details that pull this together.
Lions, Tigers, and Bears OH MY (this one is perfect for the dad that doesn’t want to dress up LOL)
Rapunzel and Flynn Rider Costume Ideas by Make it and Love it
What little child doesn’t like Rapunzel? It is really easy to pull off this Tangled themed family costume. You can easily find many beautiful Rapunzel costumes or make your own.
Your little ones will feel extra excited for Halloween dressed in these fun characters. I think you could have a lot of fun with Rapunzel’s hair and I think the extra touch of drawing a goatee on Flynn is adorable. Seriously, the Flynn Rider Costume is spot on!
Family Halloween Costumes with Baby
Baby shark doo doo doo doo. Mommy shark doo doo doo doo. Daddy shark doo – you already know the rest. So cute and so comfy, especially if your Halloween trick or treat falls on a cool night.
Serve it up with sweet with this ice cream family costume! A baby is definitely the sweetest little scoop ever!
Family of 3 Halloween Costumes
Mary Poppins is one of my favorite characters. This would be very cute if you have three kids or more. After all, there are more characters you could create Halloween costumes for.
These costumes do require some extra work but she walks you through each one with a step by steps sewing tutorial. They really come out beautiful and could be passed down through your family. Just allow a few weeks to sew and put this together.
Where’s Waldo. Got stripes? This Waldo idea is the easiest costume to pull off at the last minute.
Family Halloween Costume Ideas
Here are some family Halloween costumes not pictured (but would easy to pull off)
- Frozen (what kid wouldn’t love this one). Don’t miss my no-sew frozen cape.
- The Avengers
- Toy Story
- Star Wars – this is a classic family Halloween costume theme that just keeps evolving with the new films.
- Game of Thrones – after all, winter is coming…
- 101 Dalmatians – this allows for such a great number of people and Cruella is just amazing to create.
- Peter Pan – this one has such a great cast! Captain Hook, Wendy, Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and the gang are just so cute.
- Monsters Inc.
- Winnie the Pooh
- Stick Figure Family- Glow sticks make this one really stand out.
- Alice and Wonderland- This turns out so cute. Alice is also cute on her own.
- The Incredibles – because who doesn’t want to be a superhero? Be a superhero family!
- Dr. Suess
- Scooby Doo and Gang – this is so easy to recreate.
- Jurassic Park – if you have one of those big T-Rex costumes on hand already, this family Halloween costume idea is a natural fit.
Best Family Halloween Costumes
What are the best family Halloween costumes? The only limit is your imagination.
There are so many more great group costume ideas – just think of your favorite movie and characters! I would start by seeing how many people in your family you need to include in your family costume, and then look through your favorite movies.
Popular celebrities or musical groups can work too (especially for teens). Disney movies work very well. But we have enjoyed cartoons too (like the Flintstone’s pictured above).
I would especially pay attention to what your kids are already into because they are likely to use the costume to play in it over and over. Halloween is the best time of the year and we all get to be someone other than ourselves for a day, so have fun!
Have any great family costumes in the works this year? Please share them in the comments.
