How to Make a Paper Gift Card Holder
In a few minutes, you can complete this easy Cricut project and have a beautiful way to give a gift card. With some coordinating cardstock patterns you can even create a gift card holders set to keep or give away that will look pro level!
Navigate to Cricut Design Space and connect your computer to the Cricut Maker. Download the gift card holder file to your computer.
Here is a quick video on how to use the gift card holder svg file.
Once in Cricut Design Space
- Choose Canvas
- Upload Image
- Select simple image type
- Remove the background and area inside the image with the select and erase tool.
- Save as cut image
- Select the uploaded image and then select insert image to place it on the canvas.
- Resize to 5.5 inches wide
- In bottom right select contour and remove 1 contour of the gift cardholder.
- Select Make it and follow the process to cut.
Place the paper on the cutting mat. Load into the machine.
Press the flashing button and watch the magic happen.
Remove the cut gift card holder template from the mat and fold it together. How easy as that!?!
Now, want to throw it over the top?
CRICUT BOW (free Cutting File)
Coordinating bows add beautiful decorative effects and adding a bow definitely makes this give cardholder even more spectacular!
Follow the same steps above to upload the gift bow file.
Please note:
- This image must be resized to 8 1/2 X 11 inches to fit the gift card holder
- remove all duplicate contours before cutting.
You will cut these pieces.
Bring edges of the bow to the center and fasten with adhesive. I prefer hot glue.
Place small rectangle piece around the middle and secure with glue in the back.
Adhere the bow to the center of the ribbon piece. Wrap the long rectangle around the gift card holder and fasten with adhesive in the back.
Attach the bow to the center on the front of the band. The band will slip on and off the gift card holder. Definitely looks professional level here!
Cricut Machine
Do you have a Cricut? If you don’t, you might want to know more about the Cricut Maker machines. Let me tell you why I think it is the ultimate smart cutting machine! Filled with new features the Cricut Maker has the capability to cut such a wide variety of materials from paper and vinyl paper to even wood. It’s so versatile, it can even etch metal and engrave leather. The possibilities are endless!
Cricut Maker Special Features
Adaptive Tool System This impressive feature adjusts the direction of the blade as well as the pressure and depth to match the material you’re cutting. Select the materials you are using in the Design Space software guides you through what to do.
Two Tool Capabilities – Yes, that’s right! The duel carriage means you don’t have to stop and swap tools. Now you can score or draw, then cut all in one go. Definiely an upgrade to the cricut cutting machine!
Rotary Blade
This is the tool I am most excited about! This rotary blade for cutting allows virtually any fabric to be cut without a backer. It also can handle delicate materials like tissue paper. Be sure to use the FabricGrip mat when using this blade. You can’t even imagine the projects I have swirling in my head.
Knife Blade (sold separately) slices through thicker and denser materials such as balsa wood, leather, matboard, and Cricut Chipboard with ease.
If you are on the fence about a personal cutting machine I think you can rest assured that if you love creating it would be well used. I love the wide range of tools and the Maker’s precision and power make it stand out!

What might I be doing wrong?: changed size and removed contour as instructed, but a normal size gift card is way too small to be secured by the two cuts.
