DIY: Easy Striped Shirt by Lazy Saturdays

Welcome Lazy Saturdays with this darling idea!

Hello! I’m Krista from Lazy Saturdays! I blog about sewing and refashioning clothing. I started blogging to have a place to share my trashion designs (clothing made from trash) and haven’t been able to stop! I’m so excited to share a fun summer tutorial with you! I love coming up with new ways to use a simple men’s button-up shirt or t-shirt. Here is a simple tutorial that you can do with your older kids using a t-shirt and actually enjoy doing yourself! Yay!

To start, you will need a t-shirt, tape, fabric paint, brushes, and something to line your shirt so the paint doesn’t seep through. I like using cardboard because it makes the area I’m working on nice and stiff. My t-shirt was originally white but I dyed it this fun green before I started. Dyeing clothing is super easy and fun! You can see a tutorial how to dye clothing here.

Using the tape, tape every area of the shirt you don’t want to paint. Make sure to tape around the back of the shirt too. I didn’t add stripes to my sleeves because I thought it would look fun that way, but do whatever you think you’d like! There are so many fun ways you could add stripes to the shirt: tape vertically or diagonally, tape straight across the shirt including the sleeves, tape the sleeves in a different direction as the body of the shirt. Have fun!

Using your paint brush or sponge, paint your stripes. I love color! So I used a few colors. I’ve also made this same type of shirt only using one color and also loved the look!

I hope you all have fun making yourself an awesome striped shirt! Have a happy and crafty summer!
