Cute treat bags for homemade cookies

This cookie mix is an easy and fun gift to put together, and the recipient will love being able to bake up fresh cookies whenever they want. With a few simple ingredients, you can create a sweet and tasty gift that your loved ones will appreciate. Here is what you will need.

  • 9 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 cups white sugar
  • 4 cups shortening
  • 8 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 4 cups holiday m&ms, butterscotch chips, white chocolate chips or a mixture
  • free printable lable
  • color printer
  • gift bag
  • 6 plastic bags (need to hold 4 1/2 cups capacity)
  • twist ties
  • 1 up lable paper

Assembling this cookie mix is similar to cookie mixes in a jar. However, the best part about this homemade gift recipe is the recipient will only need to add eggs and vanilla extract.

In a large bowl, stir together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, salt, brown sugar, and white sugar. Add the shortening and mix until it is like sand. I found it easiest to use my hands. Lightly stir in the chocolate chips and other chips or m&ms of your choice until everything is distributed evenly.

Place 4 cups of the mix into each of the six bags. There should be some of the mix leftover. I was able to add another 1/2 cup to each of the bags.

Print the labels on white one-up label paper. This solid sheet of sticker paper can be found at a craft store or online here. I often upload the file to Office Depot and choose specialty paper and then 1 up label paper and have them print. This makes for a really vibrant and professional looking label.

Cut out the labels.

Stick the label on the front and back of the bag and slip it into the bag of cookie mix. How cute is the “We’re a batch made in Heaven” label? What a sweet way to wrap up the Valentine Chocolate chip cookie mix.

The cookies couldn’t be any easier to make! Here is what the instructions card says. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a medium bowl beat together 2 eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Add the entire contents of the bag to the bowl and stir until combined. Drop by spoonfuls onto a baking sheet and bake in preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are just golden. Don’t overbake. Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Notes

If it looks like you ended up with more than 1/2 cup extra for each bag, measure the leftovers. You might have 4 cups to make another gift. It is hard to be exact since the chips are different sizes. You need a minimum of 4 cups of mix for each bag, but I wouldn’t add more than 4 1/2 cups per bag.
