Candy coating
pencil pops
valentine pencils
plastic bags
ribbon
candy mold (mold need to have a place for the plastic pencil pop, see picture)

Directions:

Place plastic pencil pops into mold.

Melt candy coating slowly in microwave. It is important to not overheat as it will scorch. I used about 38 candy disks to fill the mold of six frogs. Fill molds.

Gently tap mold to make sure there are no air bubbles and candy coating has completely filled the mold.

Allow to completely cool and harden. Remove from molds.

Place small plastic bag over candy from and tie with a ribbon. Labels can be made by downloading tag, printing on paper, cutting them out and wrapping around pencil and fastening with glue stick.

You are 'Toad'ally awesome tag download

We used red and white card-stock along with brads(metal paper fasteners), 4 1/2 " square of black tissue paper, Tootsie Pops and wiggly eyes. Yes, black brads would have been easier, but I couldn't find them anywhere. So we colored ours with a sharpie marker and it worked perfect!

If you want to make some ladybug valentines, here is the download for the body and wings.

Ladybug Valentine - Body

Ladybug Valentines - Wings

We placed a little glue stick around the bottom of the wrapper and wrapped the black tissue paper around the sucker. Next we attached the wings to the body with the brads, then hot glued the ladybug to the sucker.

Finished!

I will say right up front ---- this little craft was messy. It kept small hands busy for quite awhile --but for a price! So if you don't LOVE glitter stop reading! You will like these hanging hearts better!

We took our empty food boxes and cut out hearts. The Cricut made quick work of the cutting, however scissors work great! For the Cricut we used a deep cut blade set to 5 with maximum pressure. This will vary with the box weight and how sharp the blade is. We cut one heart from the Plantin Schoolbook Cartridge at 5 inches. Use center cut so when it is finished it will go back to the center of the heart and you can cut another heart inside. We cut our next heart at 2 1/4 and then again at 2. This allows the heart inside to move when hanging. (Remove the 2 1/4 inch heart)

Sew through the hearts with sewing machine set on long stitch length. Leave plenty of thread at starting point for hanging.

Spread glue onto cardboard

Sprinkle with glitter. Allow to dry and repeat on back.

We did try to cut a 7 inch heart with two hearts inside (in background of third picture above). Because of our technique (excessive glue and glitter) the 7 inch heart would not hang straight.

Once my daughter was finished and the hearts were mostly dry, I placed them between parchment paper and sat a book on top for awhile to flatten them.

I have a double front door and need two door decorations and wanted something inexpensive. When I saw this red burlap on sale this week at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 a yard I decided the price was right. I realized for less than two dollars I could make two wreaths.

Supplies for 1 wreath

1 metal hanger

12" X width of burlap (my burlap was about 50" wide)

glue gun

a rotary cutter to make cutting the strips easier

dental floss

Instructions

Cut 3 - 4" X about 50" burlap strips. Sew these three pieces together, so you have one long strip. To gather the burlap, machine zig zag stitch over dental floss. I used red cinnamon flavored floss so it wouldn't show, even though it looks white in the picture. Pull the floss and gather the burlap.

Bend 1 wire hanger into a heart shape.

Adjust gathers to fit around frame, cutting off any extra that isn't needed. Hot glue to wire frame. I used clear fishing line to hang, but a pretty white bow would be nice.

If you want a no sew method, Craftaholics Anonymous gathered the burlap by threading it about every three inches or so right onto the wire Hanger.

I was looking for a quick way to give my kitchen some Valentine's Day bling so I made some embellished tea towels.

I had everything I needed in my stash --tea towels ( from IKEA left over from another project), Heat N Bond Lite, bits of fabric, ribbon and trim.

To make the applique I drew hearts on the paper side of the Heat n' Bond lite. Next, iron it to the WRONG side of the fabric. (If appliqueing a letter or number it must be drawn in reverse on the paper.)

Cut out the hearts.

Peel the paper from the fabric hearts. There will be a layer of glue on the backs of the hearts.

Stack up the hearts and iron to the tea towel. Stitch around the edges. After washing the edges might start to fray. If this is not okay, go around the edges with Fray Check.

Sew trim across the bottom of the towel.

Don't want to applique? Sewing a ribbon across the bottom of the towel is another simple way to dress it up.

If you want to learn more about applique check out this tutorial on simple monogram appliques. Reverse applique is another great technique that can be used to dress up a birthday crown.

I have tried not to think about it, actually keeping myself quite busy, but thoughts keep coming back. The complete devastation in Haiti is overwhelming. The pictures on the news of the blood flowing down the street made my heart hurt and my stomach ache. I feel so powerless and have tried to ignore those nagging feelings to do something. So today I am frivolously baking again but today trying to make it worthy.

Please consider doing something --anything!

Individually we might seem small and powerless, but together we are big! Together we can make a difference!

Attach a large tip to pastry bag and fill with cream. Insert tip into cupcake and fill until cupcake slightly expands.

Ganache Frosting

12 oz semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup heavy cream (must be heavy cream -- half and half will not work)

Place chocolate chips into a bowl and pour cream over the top. Heat in microwave until chips are soft. Allow mixture to sit a minute to continue melting the chips. Stir well. Let mixture come to room temperature. With electric mixer beat until fluffy. Fill pastry bag with large star tip and pipe onto cupcakes.

Enough frosting and filling for 12-15 cupcakes depending on your frosting and filling style.
