Pour into a bottle. We used a recycled pickle relish bottle. A glass bottle works well too, especially since it will be heated in the microwave.

Notes:

  • You can substitute butter for the coconut oil, however the coconut oil gives the more ‘real’ Magic Shell flavor.
  • You can use milk chocolate chips, but everyone we served preferred the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  • This homemade magic shell is great to keep on hand for a last minute dessert for unexpected guests.

  1. Elke, we make this all the time and don’t notice the coconut flavor at all. Super yummy!

  2. I saw another recipe that said 1/4 cup coconut oil to 1/3 cup chocolate chips. I doubled that recipe, to 1/2 cup and 2/3 cups, respectively. All I taste is coconut oil. then I saw your recipe, and it already has the 1/2 cup coconut oil, so I increased the chocolate chips to 1-1/4 cups and STILL, all I taste is coconut oil 🙁

  3. Please, please, please do not store in plastic containers to reheat. Research is showing that reheating in plastic releases harmful substances that one would ingest. Otherwise, I can’t wait to try this as the hard shell topping is one of my favourite treats!

  4. Omg thank you so much!!! I am definitely gonna try this ! It looks yummmmm!!!! :):)
