Printable Owl Mobile

Here is a beautiful owl printable from Kate Petty, of Mini Eco.

Kate writes...

Hope you like these little owls. I reckon they cheer the place up a little and would make the perfect decoration for a kids room. As promised I have created some templates below for you to print out.

How to

You will need:
♥ A printer to print out the pdf’s below.
♥ Colored paper
♥ Scissors
♥ Thread
♥ 1/8″ craft punch (optional)

1) Begin by printing your owls onto some coloured paper. In the picture above you can see that I printed the red owl onto pink paper, the orange owl onto light orange paper, the green owl onto yellow paper, the blue own onto green paper and the purple owl onto blue paper (hope that makes sense).

2) Cut out the owls. There are two on each pdf so that you have a back and a front.

3) Glue the two sides together with a glue stick.

4) Put your owls in between some heavy books for a couple of hours just to make sure they dried flat and smooth.

5) Punch out all the dots around the owls eyes using a 1/8″ circular craft punch – this is entirely optional.

6) String together in any way you fancy!

7) Leave a comment if there are any problems and I’ll try to help.

Herb Cheese Rolls in Tulip Cups

I am loving these brown tulip baking cups. They worked perfect to hold yummy herb cheese rolls at a luncheon last week.

Herb Cheese Rolls

1 package active dry yeast

1 cup warm water

2 Tablespoons sugar

2 Tablespoons butter

1 large egg

1 teaspoon Kosher salt

3 - 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour

Combine yeast, warm water and sugar. Let stand five minutes.

Combine yeast mixture, butter, egg, salt, and half the flour: beat with mixer or food processor just until mixed and smooth.  Gradually add in flour to make a soft dough. I use a food processor and mix for 45 seconds until soft ball is formed.

Place dough in a well oiled bowl, turn to grease the top of dough. Cover in warm area for about an hour until dough rises and almost doubles in size. You can also at this point put dough in an oiled zip-loc bag and keep in the refrigerator for up to four days. I put dough in refrigerator because I like to roll dough out while it is cold.

If not refrigerating, punch dough down, turn out onto floured surfaced, and kneed a couple of times.

Roll dough out to a large rectangle about 12" X 16 "

Melt about 3 Tablespoon butter and spread over top of dough.

Cover dough with 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt,  about a cup of grated cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese and a light sprinkling of oregano (or your favorite herbs).

Starting with long side roll up dough.

With sharp serrated knife slice dough about every 1 1/2" or so.

Line muffin tin with brown tulip baking cups and place individual rolls in each cup. Allow to rise about 45 minutes.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Serve along side your favorite salad for a great lunch!

Handmade Tissue Holder

I am starting to think about the holidays and some ideas for easy and useful handmade gifts. Here is a Friday Flashback that makes a perfect little gift!

Pocket Tissue Holder

Here is a quick and simple gift to make, a pocket Kleenex holder.

All you need is two pieces of fabric 6 1/2" X 7" each.

With right sides together stitch 1/4 inch from the edge all around the outside of the fabric. Leave about 1-2" opening on the LONG side for turning.

Turn and press. Make sure to press the opening to the inside.

Bring short edges to the middle. Place the fabric you want on the outside in the inside.

You can choose whether to meet the edges exactly in the middle (left picture) or overlap the edges by about 1/4 of an inch (right picture)

Stitch 1/4 inch from the edge along each end.

Turn right side out and fill with your pocket tissues. I put a slit down the center of the plastic packaging on my tissues so they were easy to remove.

You could easily make a ton of these assembly style. They would make great little party favors, teacher gifts, thank you gifts or just to give someone a little something!

If you would like a cute way to package your handmade gift you can download the Pillow Box Template. Print on colored or printed cardstock, cut on solid lines, lightly score on all dotted lines, bring flap to opposite side and glue flap to inside and then fold in the ends. Add a pretty bow and you're done!
