Praline Ice Cream Sauce

I found this recipe years ago (in a magazine but can't remember which one)  and I must warn you it is so yummy and addictive! The best part about this sauce is that it is made in the microwave, so it is fast and simple.

Praline Ice Cream Sauce

1 1/4 cups chopped pecans

7 Tablespoons butter (divided)

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

3 Tablespoons flour

3/4 cup light corn syrup

2/3 cup evaporated milk

Makes 3 cups of sauce.

Place chopped pecans in a microwave dish with 3 Tablespoons butter. Cook for 8 - 10 minutes, stirring twice. Watch the pecans closely to not burn them.

PralineSauce1

In another microwave safe bowl (I use a glass batter bowl because it has a lip for pouring) place remaining butter and heat until melted.  Whisk in brown sugar, flour, and light corn syrup until blended.  Cook on high 6-8 minutes, stirring twice, until the sugar is dissolved.

PralineSauce2

Add in 2/3 cup evaporated milk and the pecans, stir well.

PralineSauce3

Pour into jars.

Add a tag and bow and  you have made some sweet little gifts! Consider packaging with a cool ice cream scoop to make it extra special. Put  instructions on the back of the tag to keep sauce refrigerated and to reheat slightly in microwave to pour over ice cream.

  1. It’s too early in the morning for sweets, but this is looking like the exception. It looks so yummy, going to have to make some for my family, great post thanks so much.

I love this idea for teachers gifts. Does it need to be refrigerated?

  3. cindylouh says:

Wouldn’t it be cute for teachers with a nice ice cream scoop and a tag that says, “Thanks for making this year scoops of fun for _____”

  4. cindylouh says:

Since it was not processed I would keep it refrigerated. It can be heated slightly in the microwave to pour onto ice cream.

I was worried someone was going to ask about the jars. I purchased them while living in Germany. I haven’t searched for them locally or online, but here are the details from the box: Made by Leifheit, 6 Marmelade – und Geleeglaser mit deckel 1/4 lt ( 6 Marmelade and Jelly Jars with Lids). They hold 1 cup.

Hi .. I probably the only one who is going to ask this, but my family can’t eat any kind of nuts. I wonder if this is going to be still delish without the pecans? I guess it’s going to be just regular caramel sauce. Thanks for this fantastic idea though, I will definitely make this for the teachers!

  16. This looks deeeeeee-lish! I love the idea of keeping it in jars and giving it away as gifts. How long will it keep if refridgerated ? I looooooooove praline sauce. I put it on my pumpkin pie !
