Hey guys! I’m Toni, baker/blogger over at Make Bake Celebrate, and I’m so excited to be sharing a treat with you guys today!
I thought since we’re just kicking off October it would be the perfect time to share these creepy – yet totally yummy- Zombie brain truffles! Not only are they crazy fun on the outside, you’ll find a bit of “slime” and Oreo truffle filling hiding inside!
Perfectly creepy, yet fun and delicious! Let me show you just how easy you can make up some of these for your next Halloween bash.
Here’s what you’re going to need:
Wilton Brain Mold
Green Candy Melts
Green Piping Gel
1 Package Oreos
1 Philadelphia Package Cream Cheese
1 Tsp Crisco
Makes approx. 15 truffles.
I found this Oreo cookie mold by Wilton at Michael’s (1.99). They are made to make chocolate covered Oreos but they worked perfect for these truffles! If you planing on making a bunch of them I would recommend buying two since they only have 3 brain molds each.
You can also find Wilton’s Green Piping Gel and Vibrant Green Candy Melts there too, or just about any store that carries Wilton products.
Step 1: Place an entire bag of melting chocolates in your chocolate melter. Once fully melted add about a Tsp of Crisco to thin it out a little bit. If you won’t be using a chocolate melter you can simply melt small amounts of chocolate at a time since it will cool and harden between each step. The chocolate melter allows me to melt then keep on “warm” throughout all the steps.
Step 2: Spoon chocolate into each brain mold cavity and spread. It doesn’t have to be too thick, just enough to cover with a nice layer. A food paint brush comes in handy to spread the chocolate around. Once you are done you can hold the mold up and look from the bottom to see if there are any really thin spots. Place in the freezer to harden.
Step 3: Next you’ll need to send your Oreos through the food processor. I love to use my Ninja for this step.
Step 4: Mix in your cream cheese until fully combined. I stick mine right in the Ninja with the crumbs and blend for a moment.
You will get a nice creamy truffle mixture like this.
Step 5: Pull your hardened chocolate “brains” from the freezer and fill with about a 1/2 Tsp of green piping gel “slime”.
Step 6: Spoon Oreo truffle filling on top, almost filling the rest of the cavity.
Step 7: Spoon chocolate over the top of the Oreo filling, and place back in the freezer for a few minutes until they harden.
Step 8: Once chocolate has hardened gently turn upside down and twist a little to pop out, then make more!
Lots of treat, and a little bit of trick.
I hope you guys enjoy these as much as I do, it was fun getting to share them with you! If you’d like to see more of my treats check out Make Bake Celebrate or stop Facebook to say hello! And a huge THANKS to the always sweet Skip To my Lou for inviting me over today!
What size package of cream cheese do you use? Thx!
I made these for our office halloween party, they were a huge hit! everyone was scared to eat them at first, but after the first person bit into that chocolatey brain they loved it!
Oh these are fab! I have not had good luck with these molds but will keep trying. I have some Christmas Oreo molds I bought last year.
These are awesome! I can’t wait to try them out! I think I may also use some red gel for blood! 😉
Is it hard to get the brains to pop out? Do you have to coat the mold with anything?
One question, ” how long will these keep?” I would like to make in advance . TIA!
I’m soo gonna try these! Thanks for sharing!
