How to Make a Zipper Pouch
Keep all those first aid supplies together in one easy to find place! It is perfect for the car, the diaper bag or to keep at home so everyone can find! A zipper pouch is so handy and always makes a great gift. No worries if you are just learning how to sew. This is an easy project. Follow along with this great tutorial!
Sew the main fabric 2 3/4 X 2 3/4″ pieces to each side of the cross. Use 1/4″ seams.
Sew the top main fabric 1 1/4″ X 7 1/2″ piece along the top. Then sew the main fabric piece 1 main 2 3/4″ X 7 1/2″ fabric piece along the bottom.
Press open all seams.
Baste zipper along the top of the lining fabric.
Make a “zipper sandwich”. Place lining fabric right side facing up, next zipper face up and then top main fabric face down.
Using a zipper foot sew along the top edge close to the zipper.
Repeat for the other side of the zipper. Lining fabric face up, zipper face up (baste the zipper to lining fabric) main fabric facedown, then top with batting. Sew along the top.
When it is open it should look like this. See how easy sewing a zipper is!
Bring outside fabric to one side and the lining pieces right sides together on the other side. I pin zipper teeth facing toward the main (outside fabric).
With an about a 1/2″ seam sew all the way the edge leaving a 2 inch opening at the bottom of the lining. Trim corners. Trim zipper even with the edge of the fabric.
IMPORTANT: Open zipper at least halfway up before sewing around the edge.
Pinch corners and sew about an inch from the corner. Make sure the main fabric is laying next to the batting.
Repeat this for all four corners.
Trim all four corners.
Turn the pouch right side out. Push out corners. Sew the lining shut. This can be done with the sewing machine or by hand.
Push the lining into the pouch and you have an amazing First Aid Zipper Pouch. Made by YOU! Now you can make all types of zippered pouches. They make cute makeup bags. All you will need to do is cut a solid piece of fabric for the front of the pouch instead of the red cross.

Marianne, I purchased a first aid kit (about 5.99) and it had multiples of ointment, band aids , wipes and sterile pad. I think I might try to find and ace bandage, mini scissors and tape to add.
