Before embarking on your crochet journey, you’ll need to master the essential first step: creating a slip knot. A slip knot is one of the first techniques beginner crocheters learn; it’s like the foundation of your crochet project, and it’s a fundamental skill every crocheter should know.

In this crochet slip knot tutorial, I’ll walk you through the process step by step.

At the end of this post, after the photo tutorial, I’ll share with you some projects you can start even if you’re a new crocheter.

Easiest Ways to Make a Crochet Slip Knot:

How to make a slip knot with your hands:

Follow these easy steps to create the perfect slip knot with your fingers:

Step 1: Hold the tail end of the yarn in your left hand and the working yarn (the one that goes back to your yarn ball) in your right hand (or opposite hands if you’re left-handed).
