Here is What You Need
- a mold
- granulated sugar
- water and
- paste food coloring (optional)
- measuring cup and spoons
How to Make Homemade Sugar Cubes
Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon water and tiny (pin drop) bit of paste food coloring. Mix well. It will feel like damp sand.
Firmly press the sugar into the heart mold.
Carefully flip mold over and remove the hearts. It is a bit tricky during the flip but, I found it easiest to fill the mold and immediately remove so I could keep making the sugar cubes. Placing something flat on the mold and flipping all together at once made it a bit easier. Wipe mold between fillings.
Allow sugar cubes to dry and harden. Overnight is best. It doesn’t take long to have beautiful homemade sugar cubes!

The keep well, just store in an air tight container. Just make sure they are kept dry and away from moisture.
Hi There, just had to write and say I am going to try these. I’m hosting a bridal shower for my stepdaughter and she wants a tea party so of course beautiful sugar cubes are in order!
Do you know how they should be stored and how long they will last? The shower is a couple of months away and I’d like to make them early so I can cross these off my list.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Can you tell me what mold you used for the Teapots and teacups? I want to do the same but I cannot find a mold that is small enough. Thank you!
Can these be made with artificial sweeteners, i.e., Splenda, Sweet n Low?
I’m ordering my mold and flavoring today but I’m making teapots and teacups I am hoping they will come out. I am doing a trial run, before I actually make them for the shower. Thanks for this wonderful idea!
You got me there Doug!
These are not cubes.
I made some of these this week and they are so cute! I just came here to see how to make square ones without a mold. Also, my blue dye and red dye do not turn into a pretty purple at all, but maybe b/c they are liquid and not paste? So I just made pink and yellow and blue hearts and teapots. Tonight I am going to flavor some in case anyone wanted to try them, but wanted to make sure they were a different shape, so nobody accidentally flavored their drink if they did not want to. Also, am turning a tea box inside out so it’s white on the outside and then I can store them and label the box or use rubber stamps on it. It’ll be cute!
THANKS I GOT MY MOLD AND FOOD COLORING TODAY… NOW TO MAKE SOME SUGAR CUBES FOR MY SWEETHEARTS (GRANDKIDS) THANKS THESE ARE SO CUTE

It’s really very complex in this busy life to listen news on Television, therefore I simply use world wide web for that reason, and obtain the most up-to-date information.
Thnaks for posting this tutorial. I have always loved sugar cubes as kids. I used your tutorial to make these cubes for my sister’s High Tea baby shower, and linked to your blog.
