I know I know, this is not healthy and I am one of those moms that won’t buy sugared cereal—- sorry I am a bit of a hypocrite (especially since I feed my kids this too)! Snow cones are definitely a treat, one we love! Making the snow cone syrup yourself is so much cheaper than buying the flavored syrup from the store and it tastes better.

  1. This reminds me of going to the county fair each year in the small town I use to live in in Iowa! Hey, we all need alittle sugar sometimes…that’s what keeps us all sweet! 🙂 Mary

  2. I dont think you’re being hypocritical – as long as the kids knows its a special treat, and since it’s homemade, you have more control of what goes into the syrup.

I think the receipe is great – am gonna use it on our camping trip next week! We don’t have a ice shaver, so we put the ice into a plastic bag, cover it with a dishtowel, and use a rubber mallet to crush the ice into small pieces. We love our snow chip cups!!!

    Thanks for a great idea!

  3. Oh my grandkids are going to love this. They love snowcones and I always run out of syrup. Thanks for the recipe.

  4. Michelle, I think the recipe is saying one .22 oz package, not 1.22 oz.

I’ve been craving a sno cone, but having diabetes puts a damper on that. I would love to try this with a sugar substitute.

  5. This is perfect because my daughter has a Snoopy snow cone maker and we’ve only used it once (using all of the syrup that came with it). I was going to go out and buy more, since she’s been wanting to have more snow cones for[like]ever – but now I can just make it! this weekend, for sure:)

  6. Question for you…is it just one pack of powder in the syrup recipe? The packs are 0.22 oz but the recipe said 1.22 oz? Typo? Thanks!

  7. Yes, the syrups can be pricey! Plus it’s not something we can always find in stores. I like how this is an easy alternative. Thanks!

  8. Wow….that takes me back….waaaaay back! We ate snow cones all the time when I was a kid. My boys, when they were little (now 27 and 24) notsomuch and I’m not sure why. (I know it wasn’t a sugar issue, I was the Mom who fed her kids sugared cereal.) Hmmm, I’ve saved the recipe and will make a point to treat my future grandkids!

  9. Thanks for the recipe! Our flavorings just ran out and I was debating on buying some more or just retiring the snow cone maker for the Summer…but not anymore!

  10. What a great idea!! I saved the recipe – and I know where machines are on clearance… hmmm…

  11. oh I need to do this and i love the idea Mary Kay said…must check this out before cold weather arrives!! =)

  12. I’m sure you could use the natural stevia drink powder at health food stores as well. Thanks!
