Florida-based event planner, Heather Snively, on behalf of Florida Department of Citrus has come up with some clever ways to create a festive and frugal holiday.

Here are a few of her cost-effective holiday tips

Decorate with nature: use materials from nature to dress up your table. Simply placing oranges in a basket can look festive

Oranges and greenery placed on a foam cone can made an elegant centerpiece

Borrow what you don’t have: Rent extravagant decorations at a local prop shop or swap items with friends and family to revitalize your holiday decorations.

Look to nature for holiday gifts: A package of fresh Florida citrus fruit is a meaningful and personal gift from the Sunshine state, sure to warm up that special someone’s winter. It can be conveniently ordered at www.pickFLA.com and delivered to a loved ones’ doorstep.

The Florida Department of Citrus is going to warm up one lucky reader’s holiday with a gift basket of fruit.  Please leave a comment on this post by Friday at midnight for a chance to win!

  1. Wow, real citrus! It’s so hard to find good fruit here in the southwest. This would be a great win.

  2. I love the color of oranges in the kitchen, ALL year around. They are so cheery and scream “my family is a healthy family” lol.

Also, I have seen some wreaths one can make with dried apples and I was thinking I could do that with dried oranges too…

Well anyhow i think they are nice to do this, I used to live in the Central Valley of Ca and the only thing I miss from there is the fresh crop of fruit and veggies available during peak times…

  3. Someone used to send my parents a box of FL citrus for Christmas every year. That was one of our favorite gifts! me. I’d love to win!

  4. Love, love, love fruit. I always have a full fruit bowl for snacking and it just looks so pretty too!
