How to Make a Christmas Stocking
Download and print the free Christmas Stocking pattern. Print full size. It will run off the page, that is okay. Use the edge of the paper as the top of the stocking. Cut around the stocking outline.
Cut four stockings two of each fabric. One will be the lining and cuff of the stocking. This mini Christmas stocking is fully lined.
Place one of each style of fabric right sides together. Sew across the top of the stocking.
When the stocking are open they will look like this.
Place the stockings together right sides together.
Two inches down on the side you want to be the lining and cuff place a piece of ribbon folded in half.
Stitch all the way around the outside of the stocking leaving a two-inch opening for turning.
Carefully, clip the curves of the stocking.
Turn stocking right side out and press. Whipstitch or machine stitch the opening closed.
Push the lining inside the stocking and turn down the top to make the cuff. Wasn’t that the easiest stocking sewing pattern ever!?!
The sky is the limit! Make felt stockings or even furry ones. Feel free to add embellishments like pom pom trim.
Stocking Advent Calendar
Christmas is a time of giving and getting. A time for family, friends, and loved ones. It’s a time when we remember the meaning of life in all its joys, sorrows, successes, and failures. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re Christian or not – Christmas is about celebrating hope in the face of fear; peace in the midst of chaos; love in spite of hate…and so much more! With that said, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of holiday traditions surrounding this season to celebrate with your family and friends.
One tradition that might be new to many people involves advent calendars! Advent calendars are usually small boxes containing 24 different items (one per day) which can be opened on each consecutive day leading up. Well, it doesn’t have to be boxes and these cute stockings work perfectly to countdown to Christmas! Plus it makes an amazing Christmas decoration.
Simply clip the small DIY stockings to a long ribbon. I found the wooden numbers at a local craft store and hot glued them to the small red clothespin.
