Cancer is a terrible disease. Many of us have seen either our friends or family go through the daily struggles of dealing with a cancer diagnosis, as well as the cancer treatments they have to endure, such as chemotherapy.
Each cancer sufferer is a warrior filled with courage and an inspiration to all, it is as simple as that, and they often go through their struggles, taking the fight against their cancer head-on.
But what can you do to help, other than provide them with the moral support they no doubt need?
I’ve put on my thinking cap and come up with some cancer care package ideas. A care package is a thoughtful gift for someone fighting cancer while undergoing chemo, radiation treatments, or taking medication that compromises their immune system.
Your emotional support, positive thoughts, and good vibes during this difficult time can help, that’s for sure!

Ideas For Cancer Care Kits
There are so many practical items that you can include in one of these care kits, be it while a cancer sufferer endures hospital stays, a day of treatment at a medical facility, or when they are recovering at home.
Cancer survivors are strong, there’s no doubt about that, but a simple gift can show them that you support them through their journey, each step of the way.
Here’s what you can pack in a cancer care kit that will make a difference to help them during their cancer ordeal and healing process. Guaranteed, it will bring them some positive energy!
To Keep Warm
Hypothermia is one of the most common side effects for cancer patients, so to start, consider the following items to help them stay warm.
- Blankets
- Scarves
- Lap blankets (for when they go for chemotherapy or radiotherapy)
- Heating pad
- Warm socks (a pair of fuzzy socks to keep their feet warm are a great idea)
- Beanies or hats to ensure warmth, especially if they suffer from hair loss during their treatments
- Other Warm clothing items (sweatshirts, jackets, track pants, slippers etc).
To Fight Nausea
Statistics show that around 40% to 70% of all cancer patients suffer from nausea. While they will receive medication to help, there are a few things that you can provide for them in a cancer care gift basket that are essential, and they can fight a dry mouth too.
- Snacks such as yoghurt, popsicles and pudding
- Ginger hard candy
- Ginger ale
- Ginger tea
- Gum
Skin Care
Cancer patients undergoing chemo or radiation therapy will need skincare products. You should consider adding the following to the cancer care package to help fight dry skin.
- Lip balm
- Body lotions
- Creams
To Alleviate Boredom
Cancer treatments can be long and arduous. Add a few of these goodies to a cancer care package to ensure periods of relaxation during their treatment so the time passes quickly.
- Online subscriptions (to their favorite magazine, game, or newspaper, for example)
- Puzzles
- Pens
- Journal
- Coloring books and pencils
- Access to the internet (a small router with data, for example)
- Books or audiobooks
