We all love a good cheese board, but there’s just so much goat cheese we can eat in a lifetime. Thankfully, there’s a cool, exciting, new charcuterie board idea: butter boards!
If you haven’t heard about them, hold on because we are going to tell you all about the butter board trend – and how to hop on the trend with your own butter board!
All About The Next Charcuterie Board Trend
Although the concept of a butter board is nothing new, last week they became the newest food craze thanks to a viral video. The original creator is chef Josh McFadden in his book “Six Seasons: A New Way With Vegetables,” although it has been popularized as a viral trend on TikTok by user justine_snacks. They are sooo good, it’s hard not to love them!
Butter charcuterie boards follow the same style as other boards: you get a wooden board, put a thick layer of spreadable butter all over it, add your favorite condiments (I love edible flowers like lavender flowers), get some warm bread, and enjoy!
Things To Know About Making Your Own Butter Charcuterie Board
Although the best thing about these butter boards is that they are SO easy to set up, there are some things you must know about it. The most important parts is that you have soft butter and preferably crusty bread, but there are other important things to know:
- Use whatever board you have at hand: a cutting board, an appetizer board, etc, as long as it’s enough to fit all of the ingredients. We recommend a slightly large board for this.
- Remember that different types of wood make different flavors! Non-porous hardwood wood is the best option, such as teak, hard maple, American Cherry, Olive, and acacia.
- We also recommend using wood utensils like a wood butter knife, making them easier to spread.
- Cover the entire surface of your favorite type of butter, you can choose between unsalted butter or salty butter, as long as it’s softened enough.
- Add your favorite toppings! Here are some fun ingredients: Hot honey, olive oil, red pepper flakes, lemon zest, black pepper…The options are endless.
- Don’t forget to take a photo of the result and post it on social media! hashtag #butterboard
- The best way to eat it is with friends and family. They make for fantastic breakfast boards or at a dinner party.
