Printable Pinwheel

Here is a quick and easy printable that makes a great decoration for any Memorial Day or Fourth of July celebrations you might be having!

The container is a cardboard Uncle Sam hat from the party store filled with hydrangeas and patriotic pinwheels. A large coffee can painted with a patriotic design would also work.

If you would like some patriotic pinwheels  download them here.

Large Patriotic Pinwheel

Medium Patriotic Pinwheel

Small Patriotic Pinwheels

Print template on card-stock, cut out, fold tips to center and fasten with a long pin through black dots. The pinwheels can be attached to a pencil by pushing the pin into the pencil eraser. I needed a longer stick so I placed a cap pencil eraser on a 5/16" dowel rod that I painted blue. I found they really spin well if you add a pony bead for spacing. A star cut out would be a nice touch on the front where the pin is placed.

My big tip

Last month Kenmore asked for my biggest household challenge.  This month, I'm sharing my Genius Tip on how I am overcoming that challenge!

Kenmore Genius Tip

My biggest household challenge is getting dinner on the table now that I am working.  My longtime motto has been, "use what you have." From redoing furniture to recycling items for craft projects I try to use what I have.  I realized I have something that can help me with my household challenge!

I have a  teenage son!

He agreed if he had a photo tutorial he would be able to help get dinner ready. We started with a simple skillet meal.

Skillet Spaghetti and Meatballs

In a very large skillet put in:

  • 1 - 28 oz diced  canned tomatoes
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 2 1/2 cups water

Next add

  • 3 garlic cloves (peeled and pressed through the garlic press)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Bring sauce to a boil then immediately reduce heat to medium. Add in 12 ounces dried spaghetti. (break spaghetti in half if it is longer than the skillet)

Add  pre-cooked frozen meatballs to the spaghetti and sauce.

Cover skillet and simmer 8-10 minutes stirring frequently to keep spaghetti from sticking to the bottom of the skillet. Remove lid and finish cooking until spaghetti is tender.

Tada! I got help getting dinner on the table and he is a bit more prepared to live on his own.

Homemade Fudge

Why I only make fudge at the holidays I will never know. It is so good. My son has been asking for fudge and since it seems like fudge is for special occasions and since we just had a very special occasion --the time was right!

My son ( who doesn't want to be on my blog) just graduated 8th grade! I am so proud of him!

This kindhearted, athletic, smart, capable, hardworking, caring kid that is always hungry is certainly deserving of fudge!

If you have someone special that could use a sweet treat here is the Kraft Fantasy Fudge recipe I used.

Homemade Fudge Recipe

A

3 cups sugar
3/4 cup  (1-1/2 sticks) butter
1 small can (5 oz.) evaporated milk (about 2/3 cup) (Do not use sweetened condensed milk.)
1- 12 oz package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups  (7 oz.)  Marshmallow Creme
1 tsp. vanilla
a

Line a small pan (about 6"X10" or 9" square) with foil. Extend edges of foil over sides of pan and spray with cooking spray. Place sugar, butter and evaporated milk in large heavy saucepan. Bring to full rolling boil on medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil 4 minutes or until candy thermometer reaches 234°F, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Remove from heat.

Add chocolate chips and marshmallow creme; stir until completely melted. Add vanilla and mix well.

Pour immediately into the pan and spread evenly. Let stand at room temperature 4 hours or until completely cooled; cut into 1-inch squares. Store in tightly covered container at room temperature or in refrigerator.
