Red, White and Blue Cupcakes

These cupcakes are perfect for  Memorial Day  and the Fourth of July! I was totally inspired by Angry Julie's Rainbow cupcakes and thought the possibilities were endless for fun colored cupcakes.

Red, White and Blue Cupcakes with Candy Star Toppers

I used LorAnn Professional Food Coloring and a basic white cake mix.

Mix the cake following directions. Divide the batter into three bowls (about 1 1/2 cups each). Add red and blue food coloring.  I added about 30 drops of blue and 40 drops of red.

Fill cupcake liners with batter. I layered red, white and then blue batter.  I added a touch of red batter on the top of some.

Bake according to directions on cake mix.

You will have gorgeous red, white and blue cupcakes.

Candy Coating Star Cupcake Toppers

Melt about 30 - 40 candy coating disks slowly in the microwave.

Place melted candy coating in a zip-loc bag and snip off the bottom corner of the bag.

Fill a star chocolate mold with candy coating. Tap mold firmly to remove any air bubbles.

Allow candy coating to completely harden. It can be placed in the refrigerator to speed up the process.

Frost cupcakes, add some sprinkles and a candy star topper and you are ready to celebrate!

Painted Light Switch Covers

Here is a really quick and simple project!

Painted Light Switch Covers

We used a plain white plastic light switch cover purchased at Wal-Mart.

My daughter painted her own design right on the front.

We found these Indoor/Outdoor Gloss Paints made for ceramic, metal and glass worked well. I am sure the paint might wear away after time--- but we will be ready for a change anyway!

I was hoping for some flowers, but we got lots of dots!

Bella is so proud of her new light switch cover! She has taken everyone in her room to show it off!
