Hello Skip to My Lou readers! My name is Amanda and I blog over at The Contractor Chronicles with my partner in crime, my husband, Spencer. We bought a house is 2007 and have spent the past few years updating it and making it our own. Our Kitchen is one of the main focuses in our home but is lacking décor. We love to build and make our own things – handmade is always the best! I wanted to share my recent build/décor item with you guys and give you a few tips to make your own as well.
Today we are going to be making Planked Kitchen Art.
(1) 1/4” 2×4 MDF Board
1” pin nails
First, you will need to make your planked canvas. I decided to make these one square and they measure 17.5” x 17.5”. The side lengths are 17.5” and the 5 middle sections are 10.5”. I used 1×4’s and 1/4” MDF to assemble them and you can find all the tips you need to that here.

I used Minwax Cherry Stain to stain each planked board.
I then cut out some fun “Kitchen” shapes using my Silhouette Cameo and used the “bones” as the template.
Using plain white paint, I filled in my template.
After the paint had dried, I sanded the whole piece and roughed it up a little to achieve a “weathered” look.
I also gave them a quick matte clear coat from Rustoleum to protect them.
I then attached picture hangers to the backs and hung them on my wall.
Thank you so much for having me today and I would love if you stopped by to see some of our other projects.
