My magnetic pin holder was quite an ugly blue plastic thing. Now with the help of a lovely antique ceramic dish my magnetic pin holder is beautiful.
Just a few minutes and a few supplies is all you need!
DIY Magnetic Pin Dish Supplies
ceramic dish or plate with an indented area on the bottom where a magnet can fit
1 or 2 heavy duty magnets (no taller than the ridge on the bottom of the dish)
magnetic pins
hot glue
How to make a magnetic pin holder
Hot glue the magnets to the bottom of the dish with a tiny amount of glue. I used hot glue so if I changed my mind I could easily peel off the magnets later.
Add the pins and you have a magnetic pin holder. What a great way to make those handpainted family treasures useful. I think these would also make wonderful gifts!

*Smackin’ my forehead* Why didn’t I think of this?? Great idea! Thanks for sharing!!
I’m going to make my husband a magnetic bowl to catch all those screws & nails that go flying when he’s working on a project. Great Father’s Day gift. Maybe one for my boss for his paperclips like the other lady suggested. Great ideas and so inexpensive but personal. Maybe a bowl related to their favorite football team or State like say ALABAMA! Roll Tide! LOL
I made this today and it turned out great. I used an antique bone dish with beautiful fall flowers on it. It is for my sister’s birthday. Thanks so much for this great idea.
i am going to make one of these this week! and i have just the dish to make it with. thanks so much for such a great idea 🙂

This is truly one of those (SLAPPING FORHEAD) “Duh, why didn’t I think of that” moments, but I didn’t and you did. Great idea.
Great idea! I have picked up several little dishes at the thrifts because they are so pretty, but I can only use so many soap dishes. 🙂 Magnetic pin holder on the other hand? I can use a few of them!
Thanks for sharing!
What a cool idea! I can see making these for teachers to use with their paper clips instead of those ugly plastic magnetic paper clip holders.
I have a gazillion kitchen magnets at home, free giveaways from banks, etc. I could use those for an even thriftier approach to this great idea!
Off to the thrift store to find a pretty dish!
fantastic idea! I’m not loving pincushions (tho they are really cute) either, I’ve got a couple of dishes that this would be perfect for!
I love it! Now to scour the Salvation Army for a dish!
Brilliant! Did you just take the magnet out of your existing pin catcher?
what a super easy idea and awesome!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing!
