Hi there Skip To My Lou readers!
- 3 unfinished wood birdhouses {$1/each @ Joann Crafts}
- 3 unfinished wood candlesticks {(2) 3″ and (1) 6″ height}
- 4 medium sized wood base circles
- Paint: Black spray paint, acrylic paint, Foam brush
- Glue: Mod Podge, Spray adhesive
- Scrapbook paper in Halloween colors and/or prints
- Miscellanious Halloween accessories, Silver glitter
2. Cover candlestick birdhouses in black spray paint.
3. Trace/cut out scrapbook paper depending on birdhouse style; we covered the “bird” holes (except for the round house) then hole punched around the “perch.”
4. Mod Podge time! Light coat on back of scrapbook paper.
5. Light coat of Mod Podge onto sides of birdhouses, too, for a sturdy stick 😉
6. Use a squeegee or credit card to smooth out any bubbles.
Take a peek at these bad boys un-accessorized:
Now let’s do something about that, shall we? 🙂
We love to distress EVERYTHING. It drives our mother nuts! lol
We brushed a light coat of black acrylic paint here & there, all over the birdhouses and touched up any missed spray paint:
Why yes, Kristi IS sporting our interchangeable felt necklace we created and that IS a big, fat diet coke in the background! Sonic is a must when crafting 😉
After distressing the birdhouses, we sprayed the tops with glue and added a gallon bit of glitter. To completely bling out the birdhouses in Halloween digs, we hit up our local Dollar Tree for accessories…
…a brown glittered owl to add to the center of the paper accordion flower, an orange plastic spider got a coat of brown acrylic paint and smothered in gold glitter and we found the cute 4-pack of crows for under $1 with a 40% Michael’s coupon. We had everything else on hand so we spent less than $5 on the whole project. Sweet!
We ♥ how they turned out and added them to Kelli’s Halloween display:
may I ask where you got the bird houses for a dollar? I have been looking but now luck. I am hosting a baby shower and our theme is birds. Those would make really nice favors that people can paint and take home. I only have a few months till the big day and need atleast 20 bird houses.
This is such a great idea. I even have the birdhouses on hand.
Awesome idea. Thanks for sharing.
LOVE THESE!!! I was trying to make something similar and looked everywhere for unfinished candlesticks!! Did you have to order them from a company? 🙂
Thanks for the sweet comments and a HUGE thank you to Cindy for letting us guest! Happy Halloween!
XOXO
