I love easy crafts! This DIY Soap for Kids may look challenging if you’ve never tried it before, but trust me, it’s super simple. Easy crafts with that WOW factor are what it’s all about!
Imagine your kids being excited to wash up with soap they helped create, featuring cute animals embedded inside. By following this step by step tutorial, youโll have fun, kid-friendly soap ready by bath time. This soap not only looks adorable but also makes scrubbing up a fun activity for the little ones. It also makes great gifts.
This DIY soap tutorial uses easy melt-in-the-microwave glycerin soap. The possibilities are endless with melt-and-pour soap, and while it doesnโt have to be kid-themed, today, weโre focusing on making it fun for the kids.
Soapmaking Supplies
First, gather your supplies. I found these basic supplies at my local craft store.
- soap mold
- brick of glycerin soap
- plastic animals or any small toy
- food coloring (optional)
- scented essential oils (optional)
- vegetable oil (to LIGHTLY grease the mold)
How to Make Soap for Kids
Cut your brick of soap into small pieces and melt in the microwave. Yes, you could also do it in a double boiler if you’d like.
Keep an eye on it and check often. I would check it in the microwave about every 30 seconds, give it stir and repeat until it’s all melted. Stir gently…….the more vigorous, the more bubbles, and you don’t want bubbles because he makes your soap cloudy. But…..it’s for the kids and I really doubt they care if they have cloudy soap because all they’ll be doing is scrubbing away trying to get the toy.
While it’s in the microwave, lightly grease your mold. LIGHTLY is the key word, unless you like greasy soap.
Once it’s melted, this is when you want to add your dye or scents. I used food coloring, only a drop……so it’s not going to stain anything. I’m sure they have special dyes if you’re concerned. I find my scents from Whole Foods, but I usually don’t include scents in children’s soaps. Again, they really could care less.
Fill the molds half way with melted soap, then place your animal (Keep in mind the bottom will be the top of the soap…..I should have totally turned the kitty the other direction), then pour the rest of soap into the mold, filling it to the top. (keep toy size in mind, you don’t want to create a choking hazard)
That’s it! Now you have to wait a couple of hours. Too many bubbles, but I plan on telling kids it’s either the animal has gas or it’s air bubbles like scuba diving. It’s all in how you present it, right?
Once it’s cooled completely, just flip it over and push them out.
How to Gift Soap
Download the cute printable soap wraps and cut. Wrap the strips around the soap bars and fasten with glue stick or tape.
