An Advent calendar can make a wonderful family gift. Years ago we made a few families an advent calendar. Each year I gather up items and send to them to refill their calendar. I send candy, notes, small gifts and an invitation to come to our home for dinner and games. I love already knowing what I am giving them. I can also look for special items all year long.

How to make an Advent Calendar

Purchase a variety of fabrics.  An 1/8 of a yard will make a couple of tags.  Cut fabric according to template.

Turn top edge of pocket piece over about 1/4 inch and top stitch.

Make a fabric sandwich. Bottom tag piece right side up, pocket piece right side up and second tag piece right side face down.

Carefully line fabric pieces up to catch all layers when sewing.  Stitch all the way around about 1/4 inch from the edge. Leave an opening for turning.

Turn and press. Slip stitch opening closed or edge stitch all the way around to close the opening.

Tim Holtz wooden number disks at Michael’s Arts & Crafts make great numbers for the advent calendar. Paint or purchase painted clothespins and hot glue the numbers to the clothespins.

Clip to a heavy ribbon or jumbo ric rack.
