Hello, Hello Skip to my Lou Readers! My name is Heather and you can find me sharing sewing tips and scrap busting projects at The Sewing Loft.
I am excited to be joining the fun in the Bake, Craft, Sew series again this year.
I love the holidays but it never fails, I always find myself in a crunch for time. That means, I need to plan ahead and keep things simple but in my world, that does not mean skimping on the details. In fact, I think details like wrapping are one of the most important things! So, even though my project today is really simple, I promise, it can transform even a store bought gift into something fantastically hand-made!
This little project is perfect for holiday sewing – just add a fresh baked treat and your are ready for gift giving! No pins required.
You’ll need:
- Parchment Paper
- Trim Scraps
- Sewing Machine
- Rotary Cutter/Mat
- Ruler
Before we get started, I want to share a few tips about sewing on paper.
Stitching on paper will dull your needle so be sure to dedicate a needle just for this task. Adjust your stitch length to be slightly longer. If the stitches are too close together, the paper will tear. Remember, we are punching holes. If sewing on paper is new to you, check out my Paper Sewing Tips page.
So, let’s gather up our supplies and get stitching!
Basic instructions:
To make a 4″ square bag, cut parchment paper 8″ long by the width of the roll. *Note: Since cookies come in all shapes and sizes, you’ll need to measure yours for an accurate fit.
Position trim below the top edge or parchment and stitch in place. Don’t forget, trims can be layered together to create an amazing package.
Fold parchment in half and cut to size.
Head back to the machine, stitch side seams closed with matching thread and fill parchment bags with your favorite cookies.
Don’t have time to bake? No worries- just pick up a few “home style” cookies from your local store and slip them inside these paper trimmed bags and no one will ever suspect!
