Multi-purpose Ski Badge Reel

Recently our library changed to new  library cards that are similar in shape and size to shopper rewards cards.  Just like the shopper cards you receive a large card and also small card for your key ring.  Since my children don't have key rings and I didn't want to carry theirs on my key ring, I thought of an easy way to keep them handy.

When we go skiing we attach our lift tickets to our jackets with these badge reels. Our skip pass badge reels fit perfectly to our new library cards.

And it clips to the strap of our new library bag

And it easily extends the card to check out books and then retracts all while never leaving our library bag

I am hoping you have a few extra badge reels laying around your house or  they can be easily found at local sporting goods stores.  Most suppliers on the Internet require multiples of 100.  This makes them extremely cheap (less than a dollar each) but who needs that many.  If you know of a good supplier for these ski pass badge reels, please share in the comments.

I don’t have a lead on your reels but we use those bungee keyrings. You know the ones that look like phone cords. We attach one end to our bookbags and the ring part goes through the library card. We were always misplacing our library cards so we had to come up with some solution.

They actually carry badge reels at Walmart in the office supply section. They are usually in packs of 2, 3, or 5, depending on the style.

I’ve been reading your blog for quite sometime, and have been wondering if you are from Topeka? Then I recognized the library logo! We live in Topeka as well. I love your blog! Thanks for all the wonderful tips that you share!

You could probably order a hundred and then sell them as Library Card reels for $5.00 each! Great idea! Thanks

Try an office supply store. We use the same sort of clip with retractable string thing for our office badges and security passes at work.

I always attach my small pair of scissors to one of those badge reels when I’m sewing, especially when doing a lot of hand work. I can clip my treads and drop my scissors. That way they never get lost in my lap or between the couch cushions.
