Super Simple Sugar Cookies

Whenever I am in a pinch for time and need cookies I make cake mix cookies.  I am such a fan of these super quick and delicious cookies (remember these?--really they are the best). Seriously in less time than it would take for you to go to the store to buy cookies you can bake these yummy cookies.

.

I am all about the cake mix. For sugar cookies I love Duncan Hines French Vanilla Moist Deluxe cake mix. For the Chocolate cookies I love Aldi's Devil's Food cake mix.

Cake Mix Sugar Cookies

.

1 Cake Mix
2 Eggs
1/3 - 1/2 Cup canola oil (I used 1/2 cup this time. A 1/3 cup works great also -the batter is slightly more stiff so slightly flatten your balls)

.

Mix well and scoop (I use a 2 Tablespoon scoop) onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees  for 10 - 13 minutes. Cookies will be soft.  Makes 20 cookies.

I can’t wait to make these!!

  3. #3 Amy says:

Ok, just made them and they were delish! I just used a white cake mix since I figured it was the least likely to make it as a cake around here. So yummy!

I am gonna have to try this. My 2 year old always wants to help make anything so I think she could help with these without a ginormous mess. Thanks for all the good ideas.

These cookies saw me through years of last minute snacks for church, school, camp, last minute guests, or just a group of teens landing at our place for a few hours. Our faves are german chocolate cake mix with coconut, devils food cake mix with peanut butter chips, carrot cake mix with raisins, and butter cake mix with M&M’s in them…the possibilities are endless! Thanks for reminding me to pick up some cake mixes while they are on sail this week! Yummmmm!

  12. #12 ninfa says:

I didn’t know about these and tried it. They were so easy!

We made these tonight. So, so good. Except my oil was a blend with olive oil in it…Maybe not such a good idea. Vegetable oil is probably best.
We wanted to know what recipe you used for the frosting. We mixed butter, powdered sugar and a splash of milk…Yours still looks creamier!
Thanks so much for the recipe.

  15. #15 cindylouh says:

Oh my frosting was from the plastic can — and by the way the one at Aldi’s is great!

We made these using a plain white cake mix, I added a tsp of vanilla for flavor. So delicious. The kids loved them.

  26. #26 Leanne says:

you can add crushed candy canes/ peppermint candies or peppermint chips (available during the holidays) to the Aldi Devil’s Food Cookies and it tastes just like a thin mint!

  27. #27 Carmen says:

Yum! I added chocolate chips to a French Vanilla cake mix. I live at a high altitude but the only change I needed was to bake mine longer (about 18 minutes total). Thanks for a great recipe!

  28. #28 Tammie says:

I saw a similar recipe somewhere that had an option for bars. I’m not a baker. Could someone please tell me if this sounds right?
    1 pkg cake mix
3/4 cup butter flavored shortening melted & cooled
1 egg, 2 Tblsp Milk, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 Tblsp sugar
Combine all ingredients, spread evenly in 15″x10″ Jelly Roll pan (can I use a 9″ x 13″ pan?) & sprinkle with 1 Tblsp sugar. Bake @ 375• for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Cool & cut into squares. Can also omit 1 Tblsp sugar on top – bake as directed. Cool & then frost.

I think I might be combining 2 different recipes, one ingredients with anothers directions. I’m pretty sure they were similar, though ?!?? What do y’all think? Does this look like it would work?
Feel free to email me: Tammie2412@gmail.com
    Any input would be appreciated!!
    Happy Holidays!
    Tammie

AWESOME RECIPE!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!! Has anyone added nuts to this recipe? I really want to try nuts and maybe chocolate chips.

  30. #30 Jen Needs says:

Silly question.. can you roll out the batter to make cut outs?

  31. #31 Audrey says:

Tried these with Bob’s Redmill Gluten-Free vanilla cake mix… I only made one alteration: added some lemon juice (because i’m not a huge fan of the nutty flavor of the mix) and they turned out great!
