I love Advent Calendars! I think it goes back to my love of things sweet and unexpected—–you know all that dinging and dashing we do around here!
Advent calendars are a wonderful way to prepare our hearts and be reminded daily how special this holiday is. If we want it can be holiday to be savored, anticipated and enjoyed and not something we feel we must get through.
Several years ago I made two special families a stocking advent calendar. Each year my kids look forward to refilling it for their children. It has grown into a fun tradition for our family.
The pattern is simple and from Martha Stewart. You may download the template here. I realize I did make mine slightly bigger. I used felt and added some decorative stitching to the top. The tags are from the office supply section at the store. I did remove the rings that come on these tags and replaced them with drink marker wires (found in the craft or jewelry section). I used stickers for the numbers.
One friend found a darling knitted garland and hangs their stockings vertically. The other set was different, however they live out of town and I have no picture. On theirs I decorated the top of the stockings each with different ribbon like the pattern suggested.
This year I am working on another set for a family and I am using fur trim to embellish the tops.
Stay tuned—–I have many more ideas for celebrating Advent and a no sew advent calendar and also a calendar I am working on for my family.
